Troy Lee Cresawn, 88, of Marion died Thursday December 25, 2008 at The Hospice House in Forest City.  He was born in Avery County to the late Columbus and Nettie Denny Cresawn.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Mildred Marie Phillips Cresawn.

He is survived by his son Eddie Lee Cresawn & wife Mary of Marion; a daughter Carolyn Gunter & husband Danny of Marion; 2 grandchildren, Scott Smith, Julie Woodard & husband Boyd; 3 great grandchildren, Keisha Woodard, Kaitlin Smith, & Kyle Woodard.

Services were held Sunday December 28, 2008 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion with the Rev. Troy Smith and Rev. David Edwards officiating.  The family received friends one hour prior to the service.

Mr. James Edgar Crawley, age 89 of Marion passed away Friday March 13, 2009.  A native of McDowell County, Mr. Crawley was born September 29, 1919 and was a son of the late Ivey Clinton Crawley and Edna Biggerstaff Crawley.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church (Tom’s Creek).  He was employed with Marion Mfg. Co., for 26 years and later retired from Bradley Lumber Company.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in World II.  Preceding Mr. Crawley in death was his wife Josephine Thomas Crawley.

Surviving Mr. Crawley are three children: Gale E. Galloway of Easley, SC, Vick Crawley of Folley Beach, SC and Jim Crawley of Marion; one brother Joe Crawley of Georgia; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Sunday March 15, 2009 at 2:00 pm in Westmoreland Chapel with The Rev. Laura Myhr officiating.  The family received friends on Saturday March 14, 2009 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Westmoreland Funeral Home.  Interment was in McDowell Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of McDowell County 575 Airport Road Marion, NC 28752.  An online register is available under OBITUARIES at www.westmorelandfuneralhome.com.

Florence Waldrop Crawford, 81 of Old Fort died Monday April 19, 1999 in the McDowell Hospital.  Born to the late Woodard and Mary Evans Waldrop, she was a homemaker and a member of Old Fort Presbyterian Church.

Surviving is his husband Robert J. “Bud” Crawford; two sons: John S. Crawford of Asheville and Buddy Crawford of the home; two daughters: Sue Gibbs and Judy Sims, both of Old Fort; two brothers, Tim McIlvain of Memphis, TN; four sisters: Marie Mathis of Garland, TX, Edith Duncan of W. Memphis, AR; Susie Bradford and Monta Bradford, both of Bartlett, TN; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Wednesday April 21 at Old Fort Presbyterian Church.  The Rev. Will Neville will officiate and burial will be in Old Fort City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials may be made to Old Fort Presbyterian Church E. Main St. Old Fort, NC 28762.  Kirksey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Cox, William F. III (2008)

Obituary of Rev. William F. Cox III ~ 2008

Rev. William F. Cox III passed away Thursday December 18, 2008 at Hospice of Rutherford County.  Mr. Cox was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 31, 1929 and was a son of the late William F. Cox II and Frances Duval Cox.  He was a member of Marion Christian & Missionary Alliance Church.  He retired as a Missionary and Southeast Regional Director from BCM International having served primarily in the Southeastern United States.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served during the Korean War.  A son William Franklin Cox IV preceded Mr. Cox in death.

Left to cherish Rev. Cox’s memory is his wife of 54 years, Patricia Rainey Cox of the home; two children: Karen Rice and her husband Kent of East Petersburg, PA and Matthew Duval Cox and his wife Jenni of Spring Creek, PA; one sister, Barbara Remy and her husband Michel of Cape May, NJ; eight grandchildren: Rebecca, Hannah, Morgan, Megan, Kensey, Lydia, Emily and Jonathan.

A memorial service was held on Sunday December 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Marion Christian and Missionary Alliance Church with Rev. Paul Adelgren officiating.  Military honors were provided by the U.S. Navy.

Frances Kubilus Corriveau, age 80 formerly of Marion, passed away on Monday November 17, 2008 at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA.  Frances was born in Shenandoah, PA to the late John Deranch and Anna Marie Kubilus Deranch.  A member of New Manna Baptist Church in Marion, she had a zeal to share with others her faith in Jesus Christ.  She will be remembered for her devotion to handing out and placing tracts in the community.  Her husband of over 43 years, Albert Corriveau, and a son Vernon Charles Corriveau preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Edward Corriveau and his wife Barbara of Hummelstown, PA and Albert Corriveau and his wife Annette of Marion; eight grandchildren, Becky, Albert, Tim, Tammy, John, Laurie, Mariah and Ed; and fifteen great grandchildren.

A memorial service was held on Saturday December 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Bruce Ward officiating.  Her cremated remains will be interred in the Wilkie Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Manna Baptist Church 245 East Court Street, Marion, NC 28752.  An online register is available under OBITUARIES at www.westmorelandfuneralhome.com.

Emma Corpening, 70, of Morganton, formerly of Marion, NC, passed away Friday February 27, 2009 at Grace Hospital.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday March 2, 2009 in McCall Memorial Chapel at Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion with Rev. Harold Davis officiating.

Burial followed at Sellers Family Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Agnes “Aggie”  (Lee) Toney Condrey, age 78 of Dysartsville passed away peacefully on Monday December 8, 2008 at her residence, surrounded by her family.  A native of McDowell County, Aggie was born on November 1, 1930 to the late Garney Toney and Biddie Walker Toney.  She worked at many jobs over the years including ward clerk at Swedish Hospital in Englewood, CO, Office Manager and Therapist in chiropractic clinics in Colorado, Florida and Marion, NC and as a Funeral Attendant at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion.  She loved traveling, fishing, was a great cook and loved to sew.  Her love of life and people was exemplified in the way she handled her various duties at the places she worked and in the way she dealt with family and friends.  She will be missed.  Her husband Lee Condrey, and a son Michael Condrey, preceded her in death.

Left to remember her are her daughter Marie Koone and her husband Chris of Union Mills; two brothers, Rev. Walker Toney and David Toney, both of Dysartsville; a sister Elaine Ward of Dysartsville; three grandchildren, Marty Monk and his wife Julie of Fairview, Andy Koone of Asheville and Chris Fortune of Dysartsville; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday December 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Revs. Walker Toney and John Cope officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Dysartsville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Merril Fortune Cogdill, 85, of Marion, went to be with the Lord Friday, November 7, 2008 at her residence.  She was born April 3, 1923 in McDowell County. Mrs. Cogdill was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and retired from Southern Devices as an Inspector.  She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Grady Cogdill; her father John F. Fortune; her mother Kathryn England Anderson; her step-father Vince Anderson; and one sister Nora Arrowood.

Left behind to cherish her memory are one son William Frank Cogdill of Grove City, OH; three daughters, Josephine Cogdill Pyatt and husband Cline of Marion, Judy Cogdill Putnam and husband Lonnie of Marion and Janice Cogdill Allman and husband Jerry of Morganton; two brothers, Frank Fortune of Marion and J.D. Anderson of Mebane, NC; two sisters, Betty A. Owens of Fayetteville, NC and Zelda Branch of Marion; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a very special lifelong friend June Poteat Geouge.

A Memorial service was held at 2:00 PM on Monday November 10, 2008 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Mrs. Nancy Marlowe Cochran, age 74 of Marion passed away peacefully on Saturday March 28, 2009 at Autumn Care of Marion.  A native of Buncombe County, Nancy was born on February 13, 1935 to the late Sam P. Marlowe and Mattie Taylor Marlowe.  She was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church and retired as the plant nurse at Air Preheater.  Her family will fondly remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  A daughter Susan Leslie Cochran, and a brother Sam T. Marlowe preceded her in death.

Deeply saddened by this loss are her husband of 48 years, Warren E. Cochran, Sr.; three children, Warren E. Cochran, Jr. and his wife Sue of Sanford, Beverly D. Root and her husband Tom of Irving, TX and Michael E. Cochran of Hickory; two sisters, Blanche Arrowood of Spindale and Patsy Smith of Merrills Inlet, SC; three grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew and James M. Cochran; one great granddaughter, Gabrielle Cochran; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday April 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev.
