The North Carolina Digital Heritage Center has digitized back issues of the Miners’ and Farmers’ Journal  newspaper.  The paper was published weekly and covers Charlotte and surrounding areas.  More than 200 issues are now available online and can be searched and/or browsed.

You may find interesting items such as this notice of marriage between Guy MAXWELL and Caroline M. ORR from the August 10, 1833 issue of the paper.

Notice of land sale - October 4, 1824 issue of the Catawaba Journal

The North Carolina Digital Heritage Center has digitized back issues of the Catawba Journal newspaper.  The Catawba Journal was published weekly and covers Charlotte and surrounding areas.  More than 350 issues are now available online and can be searched and/or browsed.

You may find interesting items such as this notice of land sale  from the heirs of Nicholas GIBONY that appeared in the October 4, 1824 issue of the paper.

The Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds offers the ability to view & search 1763-1990 land records online.  From the index you can go directly to the microfilm image.  For first-time users, a tutorial is offered with detailed instructions on how to use the site.  Individual pages can be printed.

The Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds offers an online search of land records from 1990-present.  These include Deeds, Deeds of Trust(Mortgages), Restrictions, Right of Ways, Easements, Subdivision Surveys, Leases, etc.  Once a record is located, please contact the office for additional information on how to obtain a copy.

The NCGenWeb Project features a database called NC People in the Papers.  This database is a collection of items extracted from newspapers and includes births, marriages, deaths, & general news items.   The time coverage varies, but in addition to clicking below to see a list of names associated with deaths reported with associations to Mecklenburg County. You can also search the entire database for a last name of interest and perhaps find family members in other parts of the state.

The Public Library of Charlotte-Mecklenburg County offers an online listing of divorces spanning 1846-1969.  The abstracted records include only have the name of the plaintiff, the defendant and the year of the divorce.  Records can be searched or browsed.
