The Last Will and Testament of
February 12, 1789-March 1789
In the name of God Amen. I MARTHEN POINTER of the County of Pasquotank County being very sick and weak but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all women once to die I do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth, to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting but at the general Resurrection I shall receive the same again, by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate therewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
First: I give and bequeath to ELIZABETH LISTER one negroe girl named Nan to her forever also to BARBARY LISTER one cow and calf and one spinning wheal and one pair silver shoe buckles and One gold ring and I also give unto ERZRAL LISTER one heirfer big with calf and also I give BARTHOLOMEW EVANS one rone mare and also I give unto ELIZABETH POINTER Jun. One feather bed and furniture and also I give one young stear and one chest to be sold and the money to be equally divided between JOHN POINTER, WILLIAM POINTER, JOSEPH POINTER, THOMAS POINTER, JOHN MEEDS and CLARKEY MEEDS, ELIZABETH POINTER confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hearunto set my hand and seal this Twelf day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty Nine.

Present the Worshipfull Justices
These may certify that the Last Will and Testament of MARTHEN POINTER deceased was exhibited by Elisha Lister and proved by the oath of Richard Stamp being present when the Will was signed and no executor being appointed administrator with the will annexed was granted to Elisha Lister present as the Law directs and provides at the same time the said Elisha Lister appeared and was qualified by taking the oath prescribed by law ordered that the will be recorded and letters issue
