The Last Will and Testament of
November 9, 1761-January 1762
Be it know to all men by these present that I JOSEPH PRICHARD being week & low in body but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body & knowin that it is appointed for all men once to die & the time when uncertain to make & ordain this my Last Will & Testament that is to say Princeply & first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it & my body I comit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named & as touch & such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give demise & dispose of the same in the following manner form that is to say first I will that all those just debts & contracts as I owe in rights to any person or persons whosoever be well & truly contented & paid ordained to be paid in convenient time & place after my decease by my executors hereafter named.
Item: I give & bequeath to my Daughter SARAH PRICHARD my plantation tract of land containing Two Hundred Nineteen acres at a place called the Half Way Tree which I bought of Sam. Pike to her and her heirs lawfully begotten of her body forever and also the following Negro to wit a negro man called Moses also a mare called Rose & one Maple desk & half a dozen pewter plates One silver spoon One middle size pewter dish.
Item: I give & bequeath unto my Daughter MARY PRICHARD my negro man called James & my negro man called Jacob also one mare called Blaze & one walnut desk one pewter dish & half dozen pewter plates.
Item: I give & bequeath to my Daughter ELIZ’A. PRICHARD my negro boy called Prineus? Also half dozen pewter plates One pewter dish One silver spoon One pewter tankard One pine chest with a dancet lock.
Item: I give & bequeath to my son BENJ’A. PRICHARD my plantation & tract of land whereon I now dwell containing One Hundred & Ninety One acres to him & his heirs lawfully begotten of his body forever & also my Plantation tract of land called & know by the name of Becks? To him & his heirs lawfully begotten of his body forever also my negro boy called ????? & negro boy called Dick One ovil black walnut table half a dozen pewter plates One large pewter dish One pair of Cullen hand millstones One Whip One small case of Nine Bottles One pair of Silver Shoe buckels & knee bickelsone? One pair of la?? Money peales One pair of large stylards.
Item: I give and bequeath to my Daughter MIRIAM PRICHARD my negro girl called Fillis also One silver spoon One large case of bottles & also Ten Pounds Virginia money to be raised out of my estate & also One Bell Mettle Skillet.
Item: I give & bequeath to my Four children viz: MARY, ELIZ’A., BENJ’A., MIRIAM PRICHARD my new tract of land containing Five Hundred & Fifty Six acres joining on Joseph Morris, Benj. (off page), & Isaac Overman lands Wm. Brothers, Zepheniah White & Benj. Overmans land also, to be equally divided between them.
Item: I give & bequeath unto my loving Wife SARAH PRICHARD my negro man called Boson, my negro woman called Hager to her & heirs forever & also one feather bed & furniture & one mare which I had with my Wife & & young horse that she raised & also half dozen pewter plates Two pewter dishes, plows, One wedding & one hand plow likewise a Cole Still One yoak of oxen with the yoaking & starple? & ox chain L& eight head of sheep One large iron pott.
Item: I give & bequeath to my Daughter SARAH PRICHARD my large still also one feather bed & furniture
Item: I give & bequeath to my Daughter MARY PRICHARD One feather bed & furniture.
Item: My will & desire is that my loving Wife SARAH PRICHARD have the use of my whole plantation whereon I now live during her widowhood & if she should marry then to have only the life of one half calves to have the liberty of cutten rale timber of the other plantation for to fence & keep the plantation whereon I now live in good repair to wit the Plantation called Beeks & one tea chest One tea kittle One tin sugar an ba??? Gilded trunk one looking glass one cart & wheals One side saddle which she commonly uses.
Item: I give to my Daughter SARAH PRICHARD the side saddle which she commonly rides.
Item: I give to my Five children Viz., SARAH, MARY, ELIZ, BENJAMIN & MIRIAM PRICHARD all sheep not before given to be equally devided amongst them.
Item: My will & desire that all the rest of my personal estate not before mentioned in this will be equally devided between my loving Wife SARAH PRICHARD & my Daughter SARAH PRICHARD, MARY PRICHARD, ELIZABETH PRICHARD BENJ. PRICHARD & MIRIAM PRICHARD in as convenient time as maybe after my death.
Lastly I do nominate constitute & appoint my Two respected friends Joseph Jordan & Thomas Prichard Executors of this my Last Will & Testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & fixed my seal this 9th day of the 11th month called November One Thousand Seven Hundred & Sixty One.

These may certify that Joseph Scott one of the evidences to the above will app’d. in open court by solemon affirmation declared that he was present & saw JOS. PRICHARD sign seal publish pronounce & declare the fore going to be L& contain his Last Will & Testament & that he wass at that time of sound & disposing mind & memory & that he also saw Caleb Trueblood & Thos. Prichard signe there names thereto at the same time then appr. Joseph Jordan Thos. Prichard Exec. & was duly Qualified ordered that the Hon. Rich. Speight Esq. Sec. Have notice that letters may issue
