In the name of God Amen I THOMAS PRITCHARD of the County aforesaid being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory blessed be God do this Seventeenth day of May One Thousand Eight Hundred and Four make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in the manner following that is to say

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Son LEMUEL PRITCHARD one half of the lands that I bought of Jesse Jackson and Tamer Sexton to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Son ARTHUR PRITCHARD the other half of the lands that I bought of Jesse Jackson and Tamer Sexton to be eaqually divided between LEMUEL & ARTHUR PRITCHARD to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Son ISAAC PRITCHARD one half of the land and plantation whereon I now live that half that is next to Malachi Pritchard lands so as to take in my dwelling house to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Son THOMAS PRITCHARD the remaining part of my lands that I have not givin away before to him L& his heirs forever.

Item: I leave the use of all that part of my plantation from Malachi Pritchards line to the mill swamp where on my building is on binding on a ditch that is back of my orchard between that and the ridge to my loving Wife LYDDA PRITCHARD during her widowhood or life like wise one feather bead and furniture one juniper table one cedar chest, one young mare named Pleasher, one cow her own horse, one ew and lamb one sow six shotes Ten barreles of Indian corn one plough and harness one loom one ax one iron pot One iron tea kittle Three flag bottom cheers one linen wheel one wollen wheel one pewter dish one pewter bason three pewter plates six earthen plates one washing tub one pail one bread tray one hackle during her widowhood or life And after her death or marrage to be eaqually divided eaqually among my Five Daughters viz: DORCAS SMITHSON, ELIZABETH CARTWRIGHT, MARY PRITCHARD, DOLLY PRITCHARD & SUSANAH PRITCHARD to them and their heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Son THOMAS PRITCHARD my hand gun.

Item: I give and bequeath to my SAMUEL PRITCHARD six silver dollars to him and his heirs forever.

Lastly I leave all the remaining part of my estate that I have not given away before in legacies before to after paying my just debts, to be eaqully divided between my Five Daughters DORCAS SMITHSON ELIZABETH CARTWRIGHT MARY PRITCHARD DOLLEY PRITCHARD & SUSANAH PRITCHARD.

Item: my will and desire is that if either of my Sons LEMUEL or ARTHER PRITCHARD should die with out heir that the surviver should have all the lands that is willed them both

Item: my will and desire is that if either of my Sons THOMAS or ISAAC PRITCHARD should die with out heir then the surviver should have all the lands that is willed to them both and I hereby make and ordain my Son SAMUEL PRITCHARD & Hezekiah Cartwright Executors of this my Last Will and Testament

THOMAS PRICHARD

July 22, 177?-March 1772

Be it remembred that I THOMAS PRICHARD of the County of Pasquotank being well and in good health and of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God for the same therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die Do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the earth and to be buried in a decent manner at the discretion of my Exr. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless in this life I gave demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.

Impromise it is my will and I do ordain that in the first place all my just debt and funeral charges be paid and satisfied.

Item: I give and bequeath unto JAMES PRICHARD my well beloved Son and his heirs a negro boy named Sampson and one feather bed and one cow and calf that he now has.

Item: I gave & bequeath unto JOHN PRICHARD my well beloved Son and his heirs the upper end of my land called and known by the name of Turkey Ridge containing One Hundred acres more or less and one horse and two cows and earline and one feather bed or the value of one feather bed which he know has all but the bed.

Item: I give and bequeath unto JESSE PRICHARD my well beloved Son and his Haris the plantation part of my land containing Seventy Five acres more or less and one young mare and one cow and calfe and one feather bed.

Item: I gave and bequeath unto ELIZABETH JACKSON my well beloved Daughter one feather bed that she now has.

Item: I gave and bequeath unto DOLLEY RELFE my well beloved Daughter one feather bed that she now has.

Item: I gave and bequeath unto ANNE ROWE my well beloved Daughter one feather bed that she now has.

And the remaining part of my Estate after DORCAS SANDLEN  and KEZIAH PRITCHARD my well beloved Daughters is made up to one feather bed or the value of it apiece then the remaining part of my Estate to be left the use of my beloved Wife PETHIAR PRICHARD during her natural life or widowhood then after that to be equally devided between  JOHN PRITCHARD and JESSE PRITCHARD and ELIZABETH JACKSON and DOLLY RELFE and ANN ROWE and DORCAS SANDLIN and KEZIAH PRICHARD .

I do hereby constitute and appoint my Two Sons JOHN PRICHARD and JESSE PRICHARD Executors and Executors to this my Last Will and Testament Witnessing whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ye 22nd day of July 177?(off edge of paper)

Be it know unto all men by these present that I THOMAS PRITCHARD of the place afsd. being sick & weak in body of sound & disposing mind & memory thanks be to God therefore calling to mind the motality of my body & knowing that it is appointed once for all men to die the time when uncertain L& now for the settling of my personal affairs I do make & ordain this my Last Will & Testament that is to say princepaly first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it & my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors heareafter named & as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give and despose of the following manner & form that is to say I will that all those just debts & contracts as I do owe in right to any manner of person or persons be well & truly contented & paid or ordained to be paid in convenient time & place after my decease by my Executors hereafter named.

Item: I give to my Son THOMAS PRICHARD Three Negro boys one named Jacob, one named Dick and the other called Nedd; also I give to my afsd. Son THOMAS one young mare called Pleasure her and her increase also Two young cows & Two calves and Two sows and pigs and one black walnut ovil table also one good feather bed and furniture three leather chairs, half a dozen new pewter plates Two dishes and basons One two handle silver cup Two young stears about Three years old One middle sized iron pot also all my shoe makers tools also Two young Ews and Two lambs also one small cedar chest and One large white chest with a double dancet? Lock and one Twelves bottle case.

Item: I give to my Son JOSEPH P RICHARD Three Negro boys named Sam, Will and Boson also One young mare colt her and her increase also Two cows and to calves, young ones also Two sows & pigs & Two young ews and lams & Two Three year old stears also One writing desk also One small square Black Walnut table also One iron bound chest and One god fether bed and furniture and Three leather chairs & half a dozen new pewter plates to new pewter dises and Two new pewter basons & four silver spoons and One middle sized iron pot also One Twelve Bottle case red coular.

Item: I give to my Two Sons One brass kettle and the wind mill throes together with the iron works there unto belonging and one hand mill to be equally divided between them.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my dear and loving Wife ELIZ. PRICHARD one negro man named Moses one negro woman called Dinah and One negro woman called Moll to her and her heirs forever, also all the remainding part of my whole estate to my true and Loving ELIZABETH PRICHARD to her and her disposing forever, and furthermore my will is my Wife ELIZ. Have her third in my above mentioned land during the term of her widowhood but if she should happen to marry then my will is that my afsd. Wife ELIZ. Peaceably surrender all her rights of dowry and thirds of all the above mentioned land to my Sons afore mentioned.

Lastly: I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my true and Loving Wife executrix of this my Last Will and Testament & likewise my loving son THOMAS PRICHARD and my loving Cosen JOSEPH PRICHARD and my trusty friend Thos. Nicholson Executors of this my Last Will and Test. Revoking disannulling and making void all former or other wills lagacies bequests & exers. By me before this time made named willed and bequeathed ratifying & confirming this and no other to be my Last Will & Testament.

In witness wereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this Twenty Second day of the Sixth month commonly call’d June in the year One Thosand Seven Hundred & Fifty Five.

Appeared in open court and made oath on the Holy Evengelist that he was present & saw THOMAS PRICHARD sign seal publish pronounce and declare the within to be and contain his Last Will and Test. & that he was at that time of sound & disposing memory & that he also saw John Ferrell & Thomas Grandy the other Two evidences sign their names there to at the same time. Then appeared THOMAS PRICHARD exec. Was duly qualified ordered that the Honerable Rich. Speight Esq. ??? have notice that letters issue.

 JEHU CARTWRIGHT

1810-1813

State of North Carolina

In the name of God Amen.  I Jehu Cartwright of Pasquotank County and state North Carolina being weake of body but of sound and perfect mind and disposing memory: blessed be Almighty God for the same do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament.

I give and bequeath to my two sons Jehu Cartwright and Robert Cartwright all my track of land where on I now live to be devided between them boath equally.  The east part of my land to my eldest son Jehu and the west part to my son Robert.

Also I give to my grand son John Cartwright son of Robert one Ew sheep, one Holey Bible and sifering slate.

I also wishing all my just debts pade.

I also give the remainer of my property to my fore Daughters to be equally devided between them all fore and to their airs. Maraham Bright, Tamar Jackson, Ann Pique, Mary Jackson.

LEMUEL PRITCHARD

October 9, 1843-December 1850

 Dec. Term 1850

In the name of God Amen! I LEMUEL PRITCHARD of the County of Pasquotank & State of North Carolina being of sound mind & memory blessed be God for the same do make and ordain this Instrument of writing to contain my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following viz:

First: I give to my Nephew JAMES PRITCHARD the land & the end of the Sextons land next to John Harris heirs beginning on the road near where the house now stands at a cross fence & running to John Harris Sen. Live, also one bofat & crockery ware, one clock & red table & six stool chairs.

I give to my Nephew JESSE PRITCHARD, the balance of the Sexton land next to Ephram Brites land & one blue chest.

I give to my Nephew MILES R. PRITCHARD, the land on the creek called the Murden land, beginning on Adam Staffords heirs road & running as the road now stands straight to the creek between the Two plantations also a piece of swamp that I bought of Wm. Beddle.

I give to my Nephew JOSIAH CARTWRIGHT the Stafford land & improvements and the road above named to be the line from Adams road to the creek & one bed & furniture.

I give to my Nephew WM. B. PRITCHARD one bed & furniture

I give to my Nephew MARTIN PRITCHARD one bed & furniture

I give to my Brother SAMUEL PRITCHARD heirs Ten Dollars out of my estate.

I give my Brother THOMAS PRITCHARD heirs Five Dollars out of my estate.

I give to my Nephew MILES SAWYER Five Dollars out of my estate.

I give to my Sister ELISABETH CARTWRIGHT Twenty Dollars out of my estate.

It is my will & desire  that all the rest of my estate to be equally divided between my Brothers ARTHUR & ISAAC PRITCHARD, it is my will that they take care of my Two Sisters POLLY & SUSAN during their natural life, after paying all my just debts, furthermore I do nominate constitute & appoint my Nephew WM. B. PRITCHARD to be executor of this my Last Will & Testament hereby disannulling all former wills by me made. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 9th day of October 1843.

A paper writing purporting to be & contain the Last Will & Testament of LEMUEL PRITCHARD decd. Was produced in open court by Wm. B. Pritchard the executor therin named & the execution thereof proved by the oath of Seth Morgan one of the subscribing witnesses thereto who swore that he saw the sd. LEMUEL PRITCHARD sign the said paper that at the time there of the said LEMUEL PRITCHARD was of sound & disposing mind & memory, that he declared said paper to be & contain his Last Will & Testament & that the same was subscribed by himself & the other witness Stephen Stafford as witness at the request of the said LEMUEL PRITCHARD in his presence & in the presence of each other & that the said subscribing witness Stephen Stafford is now dead. Where upon it is produced by the exec. That the said paper writing is the Last Will & Testament of LEMUEL PRITCHARD & is in law sufficient to pass both real & personal estate. Let the same be recorded on motion Wm. B. Pritchard the executor therein named appeared in open court & qualified as Executor thereto.

JOSEPH PRICHARD

February 2, 1824-December 1825

I JOSEPH PRITCHARD being in a weak state of health but of sound mind and disposing memory do make and ordain this instrument of writing to be and contain my Last Will and Testament for the disposal of my worldly estate in manner & form following Viz.

Imprimis: I give and bequeath unto my Daughter ABIGAIL PRITCHARD One feather bed & furniture 3rd choice, One trunk, One side saddle, One linen wheel and Fifteen dollars in cash to her and her heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Daughter PENNINAH PRITCHARD One trunk, Seventy Five dollars in cash to be applied as far as is necessary to the use of educating her.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Daughter SUSANNAH PRITCHARD One Hundred dollars in cash to be applied as far as is necessary to the use of educating her.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Daughter ARENATH & MARY ANN PRITCHARD each One Hundred & Fifty dollars to be applied as far as is necessary to the use of educating them.

Item: My will and desire is that my boy Joseph Morris (of color) that I bought of George Morris should be hird out for the benefit of my estate until he arrives to a age of Twenty One years on such conditions that the person who hires him shall learn him to read the scriptures.

Item: I give and bequeath my boy Jonah (who was laid at my door in a state of helpless infancy? To Joseph Parker and Aaron White two of the Trustees of the yearly meeting of Friends of North Carolina for the use of said yearly meeting to them & their success in office, now this ???? that Mary a colored woman with whom I have placed him shall have him until he arrives to the age of Twenty One years if she wishes to keep him and if she should chose to keep him, that he be hired out until he arrives to the age of Twenty One years for the benefit of my estate on condition that he be learned to read the scriptures.

Item: I give and bequeath unto Joseph Parker Aaron White & Morris Nixon Three of Trustees of the yearly meeting of Friends of North Carolina (for the use of Sampson Dozier & family) a small piece of land that I purchased of Josiah Davis & Wife adjoining the lands of Bailey Davis heirs & others as my deed Will show them and their successors in office for the use of sd. Sampson & family.

Item: I give my Executers hereafter named full power and authority to sell all my lands except the small piece I have given away to the best advantage when they may think proper and on such credits as they may deem best, and also to sell my personal estate not given away and the money arising from the sale of both the lands & personal estate I will to be equally divided between my Seven Daughters viz. REBECCA MORRIS, BETSEY, ABIGAIL, PENNINIAH, SUSANNAH, ASENAH, & MARY ANN PRITCHARD to them and their heirs forever.

Item: I give & bequeath unto old Pathena Pritchard (of color) the use of one acre of land (where she is abut to build her house) during her life & I wish my Executors hereafter named if the should effeat a sale of my lands to exapt the use of one acre as aforesaid for her use and that she have the privilege to clear it or not as she may think proper.

Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my Brother BENJAMIN PRITCHARD my Son in Law DAVID MORRIS and my friend Morris Nixon executors to this my Last Will & Testament (torn off) by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this and no other, to be my Last Will & Testament.

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 2d day of the 2d mo in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty Four.

In addition to the foregoing Will made the 2d day of 2d mo. 1824 my Will L& desire is that if Cesar & Tishy Morris of color can pay for the land whare they no live I bought of Mary Tomson & her Two children the price of One Hundred & Two dollars with the interest from the date of the deed which is the cost that my executor before named should give them a deed for the same L& if they cannot purchase the land that they should pay at the rate of Twelve dollars for each & every year for the due rent L& to keep the same in good repair, the rent to commence the first of 1825 & when my executors shall think proper that they should sell the same in addition to the rent of my lands and apply the money arising therefrom with the rest of my estate as before mention this the 30th of 10th mo. 1824

Be it know to all men by these present that I JOSEPH PRICHARD being week & low in body but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body & knowin that it is appointed for all men once to die & the time when uncertain to make & ordain this my Last Will & Testament that is to say Princeply & first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it & my body I comit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named & as touch & such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give demise & dispose of the same in the following manner form that is to say first I will that all those just debts & contracts as I owe in rights to any person or persons whosoever be well & truly contented & paid ordained to be paid in convenient time & place after my decease by my executors hereafter named.

Item: I give & bequeath to my Daughter SARAH PRICHARD my plantation tract of land containing Two Hundred Nineteen acres at a place called the Half Way Tree which I bought of Sam. Pike to her and her heirs lawfully begotten of her body forever and also the following Negro to wit a negro man called Moses also a mare called Rose & one Maple desk & half a dozen pewter plates One silver spoon One middle size pewter dish.

Item: I give & bequeath unto my Daughter MARY PRICHARD my negro man called James & my negro man called Jacob also one mare called Blaze & one walnut desk one pewter dish & half dozen pewter plates.

Item: I give & bequeath to my Daughter ELIZ’A. PRICHARD my negro boy called Prineus? Also half dozen pewter plates One pewter dish One silver spoon One pewter tankard One pine chest with a dancet lock.

Item: I give & bequeath to my son BENJ’A. PRICHARD my plantation & tract of land whereon I now dwell containing One Hundred & Ninety One acres to him & his heirs lawfully begotten of his body forever & also my Plantation tract of land called & know by the name of Becks? To him & his heirs lawfully begotten of his body forever also my negro boy called ????? & negro boy called Dick One ovil black walnut table half a dozen pewter plates One large pewter dish One pair of Cullen hand millstones One Whip One small case of Nine Bottles One pair of Silver Shoe buckels & knee bickelsone? One pair of la?? Money peales One pair of large stylards.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Daughter MIRIAM PRICHARD my negro girl called Fillis also One silver spoon One large case of bottles & also Ten Pounds Virginia money to be raised out of my estate & also One Bell Mettle Skillet.

Item: I give & bequeath to my Four children viz: MARY, ELIZ’A., BENJ’A., MIRIAM PRICHARD my new tract of land containing Five Hundred & Fifty Six acres joining on Joseph Morris, Benj. (off page), & Isaac Overman lands Wm. Brothers, Zepheniah White & Benj. Overmans land also, to be equally divided between them.

Item: I give & bequeath unto my loving Wife SARAH PRICHARD my negro man called Boson, my negro woman called Hager to her & heirs forever & also one feather bed & furniture & one mare which I had with my Wife & & young horse that she raised & also half dozen pewter plates Two pewter dishes, plows, One wedding & one hand plow likewise a Cole Still One yoak of oxen with the yoaking & starple? & ox chain L& eight head of sheep One large iron pott.  

Item: I give & bequeath to my Daughter SARAH PRICHARD my large still also one feather bed & furniture

Item: I give & bequeath to my Daughter MARY PRICHARD One feather bed & furniture.

Item: My will & desire is that my loving Wife SARAH PRICHARD have the use of my whole plantation whereon I now live during her widowhood & if she should marry then to have only the life of one half calves to have the liberty of cutten rale timber of the other plantation for to fence & keep the plantation whereon I now live in good repair to wit the Plantation called Beeks & one tea chest One tea kittle One tin sugar an ba??? Gilded trunk one looking glass one cart & wheals One side saddle which she commonly uses.

Item: I give to my Daughter SARAH PRICHARD the side saddle which she commonly rides.

Item: I give to my Five children Viz., SARAH, MARY, ELIZ, BENJAMIN & MIRIAM PRICHARD all sheep not before given to be equally devided amongst them.

Item: My will & desire that all the rest of my personal estate not before mentioned in this will be equally devided between my loving Wife SARAH PRICHARD & my Daughter SARAH PRICHARD, MARY PRICHARD, ELIZABETH PRICHARD BENJ. PRICHARD & MIRIAM PRICHARD in as convenient time as maybe after my death.

Lastly I do nominate constitute & appoint my Two respected friends Joseph Jordan & Thomas Prichard Executors of this my Last Will & Testament.

JOHN PRITCHARD

August 10, 1797-July l7, 1798

I JOHN PRITCHARD of the County of Pasquotank and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and disposing memory but calling to mind the mortality of my body do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following viz:

I give and bequeath unto my loving Wife SARAH PRITCHARD all my whole estate both real and person wherever to be found (after all my just debts are paid) to her and her heirs forever and likewise I do by these presents nominate and appoint her the said SARAH PRITCHARD my sole executrix to this my Last Will and Testament, revoking all other wills, gifts, legacies, or bequeath, heretofore by me made, signed with my own hand and sealed with my seal this the Tenth day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Seven  1797.

Who declared that he saw the Testator JOHN PRITCHARD sign seal and acknowledge the within writing for and as his Last Will and Testament and that the said JOHN PRITCHARD at the time appeared to be of sound and disposing mind and memory, that he also saw Reuben Keaton sign the same as a concurring witness. The said executrix appeared and qualified by taking the oath by law prescribed ordered that the will be recorded and Letters Testamentary issue.

The Last Will and Testament of

JAMES PRITCHARD

October 20, 1796-July 20, 1800 

I JAMES PRICHARD of Pasquotank County in the State of North Carolina being of sound disposing mind and memory and calling to mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for men once to die, do therefore make and ordain this instrument of writing to contain my Last Will and Testament for the disposal of my estate wherewith it hath pleads God to bless me with in manner and form following.

Imprimis: I leave the use of One third of all my lands with the whole of my buildings to my beloved Wife RUTH PRICHARD, during her widowhood, also One fourth of the clear profits of my water mill, or in liese thereof Twenty Five bushels of corn & Twelve & half bushels of wheat yearly leaving the liberty of choice to my Son DAVID PRITCHARD either to pay the corn and wheat or the Fourth of the clear profits as aforsd. During her widowhood. Also I give and bequeath to my loving Wife aforesaid all the property I had by her with it increase, also my Rhode Island Mare, called Blaze, & her horse colt called Pomprey One mare colt (natural pacer) called Light Foot, One yoke of oxen, One third of my sheep, Ten head of Hogs, her own choice, One large pewter dish, One ditto bason, Six do plates, and all the provisions that is or may be laid in for the families use., Two English Blankets, Two cows and calves, her own choice, one coper tea kettle, Six flagg bottom chairs  her own choice, one half of the beaufat furniture to her and her disposal, also the use of the beaufat during her widowhood.

Furthermore I leave to my loving Wife aforesaid the labour of one negro man named Moses, and one negro woman named Hannah with her increase during her widowhood. Also I give to my Wife aforesaid One Eight gallon iron pot that I bot. At the vendue of Benj. Richardson, One Iron Skillet, One new case knives and forks, her choice of those now in the house, to her and her disposal.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Son DAVID PRITCHARD the land and Plantation whereon I now live as far as a line of marked trees which begins at an oak standing in the head of a Little Branch, then along the said line of marked trees to the back line, so along the back line to the Mill Pond for Seventy acres, be it more or less. Also the land & Plantation whereon he the said DAVID PRICHARD now lives containing One Hundred acres be it more or less. Also a piece of swamp land called the Western Branch containing Six acres be it more or less. Also I give to my Son DAVID PRICHARD aforesd. My water mill and a new pare of Mill stones that I lately bought, Also I give to my Son DAVID PRICHARD aforesd. Eight negroes Viz: old Dick & Tamer his Wife, Judah, Solomon, Nan, Rose, Hannah & Miriam one larg iron pot to him his heirs and assigns forever.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Daughter CHARITY MORRIS One Silver dollar, and one small case with some bottles, to her and her heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Daughter PEGGY DOUGE Three negroes viz: Ned, Eady and Fillis, all the pewter branded with the two first letter of her name together with what she has had away to her heirs and assigns forever.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Grand Daughter MARY DAUGE all the remaining part of the tract of land whereon I now live, that I have not given away already, containing One Hundred acres, be it more or less together with the Creek swamp from the horse bridge down to Samuel Prichard’s line with the land called Hacocks and the land I bought of John Bundy containing Forty acres more or less and one negro girl named Jane, one blue chest, one square table, one looking glass, one small iron pot to her Her heirs and assigns forever.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Son JAMES PRITCHARD the land and plantation called Duffy’s it being the land I bought of Thomas Relfe and the land I bought of John Madren and the land and plantation I bought of Reuben Overman whereon Asa Jackson now lives, also a piece of land I hold by a deed of conveyance out of John Jennings patent, also a piece of land I hold by a Sheriffs deed being a part of the aforesd. Jennings patent also I give to my afsd. Son JAMES PRITCHARD seven negroes viz: Isabel, Elijah, Betts, Rachel, Moll, Dick and Ned them and their increase together with all the remaining part of my property not already given of what nature or kind soever or wherever to be found to him his heirs & assigns forever.

Furthermore my Will and desire is that in case my Son JAMES PRITCHARD should die without heir of his body lawfully begotten that all I have given him shall be equally divided between my Son DAVID PRITCHARD and my Daughter PEGGY DOUGE.

Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my loving Son JAMES PRITCHARD and my friends Thomas Jordan and John Price whole and sole executors to this my Last Will and Testament, revoking and disannulling all former wills by me heretofore made, ratifying and allowing this only to be my Last Will and Testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twenteth day of October in the year of our Lord 1796.

The Last Will and Testament of JAMES PRICHARD deceased was exhibited in open court by JAMES PRITCHARD and Thomas Jordan two of the executors therein named and proved in open court by the oaths of Willis Casse & Mary Casse two of the subscribing witnesses thereto who declared that they saw the Testator JAMES PRITCHARD sign seal and acknowledge the within writing for and as his Last Will and Testament, and that the said JAMES PRITCHARD at the time appeared to be of sound and disposing in mind and memory, that they also saw Sally Casse sign the same as a ?????? witness. The said executors appeared and qualified by taking the oath by law prescribed. Ordered that the will be recorded and letters Testamentary issue.

The Last Will and Testament of

ISAAC PRITCHARD

February 21, 1871-November 12, 1872

In the name of God Amen!

I ISAAC PRITCHARD being at this time of sound and disposing mind though weak in body do make publish and declar the following to be my Last Will and Testament & hereby revoking all others heretofore made by me.

Item 1st: I give and devise to my Daughter MARY PRITCHARD during the term of her natural life all that certain tract of land whereon I now live which includes as well the Old Place as the parcel or lot which I purchased from Emily Albertson some year ago. And it is my desire and I hereby will that after the death of my said Daughter MARY my Grandson MARTIN PRITCHARD (son of my Son MARTIN PRITCHARD dec) shall have and enjoy the use and benefit of the said described tract of land during the term of his natural life and should my said Grandson MARTIN leave at his death children or the issue of such, then, I give it fee in the said tract to such children or their issue, but should the said MARTIN PRITCHARD my Grandson not leave at his death him surviving any child or children or the issue of such then it is my desire that the tract of land described shall best and be in my Grandson CHARLES MARTIN PRITCHARD (son of my Son MILES R. PRITCHARD) and his heirs forever.

Item 2nd: I give and devise to my Son MILES R. PRITCHARD and to his heirs forever all that tract of land, both highland and swamp whereon the said MILES R. now lives.

Item 3rd: I give and bequeath to MARY PRITCHARD widow of my Son MARTIN PRITCHARD decd. One Hundred dollars in good notes that may have belonging to my estate the balance of all notes and money that I may leave belonging to my estate after the payment of all my just debts, I give to my Daughter MARY, my Son MILES and my Grandson MARTIN  (Son of MARTIN) to be equally divided among them share and share alike.

Item 4th: Al the balance and residue of my estate of whatever kind I give and bequeath to my Daughter MARY PRITCHARD and her heirs.

Item 5th: I hereby nominate and appoint my Son MILES R. PRITCHARD to be my executor of this my Last Will and Testament.

A paper writing purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of ISAAC PRITCHARD decd. Is exhibited before me the undersigned Judge of Probate for Pasquotank County by MILES R. PRITCHARD the executor therein named and the due execution thereof by the oath and examination of Frank Vaughan and Wm. B. Pritchard the subscribing witnesses thereof, who being by me duly sworn doth depose and say and each for himself deposeth and sayeth that he is a subscribing witness to the paper writing now shown him purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of ISAAC PRITCHARD that he said ISAAC PRITCHARD in the presence of this deponent subscribed his name at the end of said paper writing which is now shown and which bear date of the 21st day of February 1871 did in the presence of this deponent subscribed his name both said paper writing and the deponent further sayeth that the said ISAAC PRITCHARD the Testatory aforesaid did at the time of subscribing his name as aforesaid declare the said paper writing so subscribed by him to be his Last Will and Testament etc…..

ISAAC PRITCHARD was of sound mind and memory of full age to execute this will and was not under any distress to the knowledge information or beliefs of these deponents and further the sd. deponents say not.
