**Notes on will**

A few words are illegible and rather than guess, a blank was inserted. In items

#4 & 6 there is a symbol for the amount of money willed. This symbol could

represent sterling, gold, land, or anything of value. There isn’t much punctuation

nor is there much consistency in spelling. It is not known who Sarah Kirby was

but it must have been someone very near to the family. Needless to say, Christopher appeared to be a relatively wealthy man for the period in which he lived.

On 17 Jan 1789 when Christopher was 20, he married Pheriby SANDERS16,6,17,13,18, daughter of John SANDERS & Elizabeth SYMONS, in Pasquotank Monthly Meeting, Pasquotank County, NC.6 Born on 10 Apr 1774 in Perquimans County, NC. Pheriby died in Perquimans County, NC on 8 Oct 1865, she was 91.

Enlisted in NC state service on 16 May 1861 as a corporal. Served in Co. F, 27th Regt. NC Troops (Infantry), Army of the Confederate States for the entire war. In August, 1864 he was elected to 2LT and commanded his company until the end of the war.

William Wilson returned to Perquimans County after the War and farmed. Since he does show on the 1880 census, he apparently moved to Norfolk, VA before that year. In September, 1887 he was residing at 35 Nebraska Street as per his application to the Pickett-Buchanan Camp # 3 of the United Confederate Veterans. He was employed as a stockyard superintendent, Perry S & Co. In that same month he applied to and was accepted into the Pickett-Buchanan Camp of Confederate Veterans of Norfolk.

He died in 1891 but whether he is buried in North Carolina or Virginia is not known.

Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia – Participated in the following battles: New Berne ’62, Seven Days around Richmond, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Bristow Station, Wilderness, Spotsylvania C.H., and minor engagements to Petersburg, Reams Station, Hatcher’s Run, Promoted August 1864 to 2nd lt. and commanded company from August, 1864 to the close of the war and was on the 25th of october, 1887 elected as a member of Pickett-Buchanan Camp.

Mother was Harriett Elizabeth Mullen, Thomas Wilson’s second wife.

Buried in family plot on East Main Street at Cotton Gin Road, Winfall, NC.

James Christopher Wilson was called Kit. J.C. and Gertrude were married in the home of Benoni Cartwright(her brother-in-law) in Pasquotank County. He was known to the Whites as Uncle Kit. He was a very prosperous business man operating a large country store at Woodville, Perquimans County, NC. He also operated several farms, was quite a horse trader, and loved nice horses. He was a democrat and loved to talk politics. His home was always open to their friends.25

On 24 Apr 1878 when James Christopher was 29, he married Alice Gertrude BANKS47,29,44, daughter of Ambrose W. BANKS & Phariby W. HOLLOWELL, in Salem Township at the home of Benoni Cartwright, Jr., Pasquotank County, NC.48 Born on 22 Dec 1856 in Pasquotank County, NC.23 Alice Gertrude died in Chowan County, NC on 28 Jun 1930, she was 73.46,23
