In Pursuit of Edward Patrick Davis

Augusta Chronicle (Georgia) May 23, 1807
To the Public

In consequence of Edward Patrick, who calls himself Edward P. Davis, who married Mrs. Ragland sometime past in Petersburg, under a colour of having been divorced from his wife in North Carolina, having asserted some tales in that town and the neighborhood thereof, injurious to my credit, and they being a wilful lie, I have thought proper to publish some certificates to show the public, what a rascal the said Patrick is.

Augusta Chronicle (Georgia) May 23, 1807

We the subscribers, residents in Warren and Granville Counties, North Carolina, do hereby certify that we are well acquainted with Edward Patrick Davis, sometimes called Edward Davis Patrick; that the said Patrick absconded from his residence in Warren county, in the year 1806; that he left a wife and one child, both of whom are now alive; and we are further confident that he has not been divorced from his said wife; as a divorce can only be effected in this state by an act of the legislature, and no such act has passed at the last, or any other session of our legislature; nor did we ever hear, nor do we believe that any attempt to obtain a divorce was made.
Given under our hands this 23d day of April 1807.

Member of Assembly from Granville county, North Carolina.
We the subscribers do hereby certify that we have been acquainted with James Critcher for a considerable length of time, and also, with Wm. Davis of Mecklenburg county, State of Virginia, father to the aforesaid Edward Davis Partrick; and from the small distance they lived apart, we are convinced that James Critcher is not indebted to said Wm. Davis.
