Descendants of John Hawkins of Halifax County

Contributed by Forrest King

John Hawkins purchased land near the Roanoke River in 1745 in North Carolina. His two sons, Isham and Thomas, appeared in the records in this same area in the 1770s. Isham Hawkins was born and died in Halifax County. Isham is often times confused the Isham Hawkins who was born in Prince George County, Virginia on 15 Jan 1740 and who died in Dinwiddie County about 1811. They are two different individuals who unfortunately share the same uncommon name. The descendants of Thomas Hawkins continue to live in Halifax County for a number of generations.
