- How do I find out exactly where a property is located that was originally received as a Land Grant in Onslow County, NC? For example: In the book “Commonwealth of Onslow: a History” by Joseph Parsons Brown, I find that a Land Grant located in Haws Branch was given to George Shepard in 1764. How can I find where the property is located in Haws Branch, and how can I determine to whom the land was sold and bought through the years to the present? I believe this would help me confirm the names and locations of some of my ancestors. – James Shepard

- I am currently trying to do some research on my Davis family lineage who were part of the Welsh Tract immigrants from Philadelphia, PA/Delaware (Pencader One Hundred Church). I am trying to find the burial site and record of Aaron Davis, Sr. (my g, g, g – grandfather who was born in 1774 {Duplin Co., I think} & died in 1826 in Onslow Co. – He left a will; we have a copy of this). He married Rebecca Marshburn around 1799 or 1800. 1. Would a death record list who his parents were? 2. What would be the best resource in Onslow Co. (& location) to look for burial information in the year 1826? 3.Could this burial site still be listed for New Hanover Co. considering this early date of 1826? The best information I have regarding his property is from two land grants (1807 & 1819) which state that the granted land was located along the east side of the Back Swamp. 4.If one was looking for estate records for the time period (1774 – 1826; life span of Aaron Davis, Sr.) – where would you look? Would the records be in the New Hanover Co. deeds – I’m guessing that Onslow was incorporated as a county at a later date. — Betty Ashler
