CONNER, Wm. – The death of Mr. Wm. CONNER at his home last Friday morning was quite a shock to the community. He was sick with pneumonia only about nine days. “Uncle Bill,” as he was commonly called, was a hard working man, was a solder in the late civil war and has had quite a deal of misfortune in this world on account of family afflictions of various kinds. We extend to the bereaved family our sincerest sympathy. A vacancy is made in the family circle that can never be filled. [Source: Polk County News, 23 January 1902]

MORGAN, Lettie – Died on last Sunday morning at her home, Miss Lettie MORGAN, daughter of Henry C. MORGAN, of Polk County. Miss MORGAN was a young girl just in the bloom of life, but God in His infinite wisdom has seen fit to take from our midst this flower we prize so high and while we extend to the bereaved family and relatives our heart-felt sympathy, yet we feel that God does all things well, and we have the consolation that she is not dead but sleeping in the arms of her blessed Saviour, beyond the turmoil and strife of this sin cursed earth. Yes, sleeping where troubles can never more come. Her departure was after long suffering. On Easter Sabbath morning her spirit-took its flight to the land of flowers, love and peace. Her remains were intered in the home cemetery, on last Monday, at two o’clock, pm. [Source: Polk County News, 3 April 1902, page 4 | View FamilySearch Family Tree profile]

MORGAN, Lettie – "A Letter" – Dear Sir, As you have already published an obituary of the death of Miss Lettie A. MORGAN, I hope this communication may also be worthy of space in your columns. Miss MORGAN was born May 12th, 1878 and died March 30th, 1902. She was an active member of the Baptist church and joined the church at the age of 15. She tried to adorn her profession by an orderly walk and Godly conversation. In her manners she was pleasant and would always meet you with a smile. She took great pride in decorating and preparing flowers for Easter Sunday at her church. A good sister remarked to the writer that it looked strange that the Lord took her off the day she prided in so much, the resurrection of her Savior. She died in the full triumphs of faith in the blessed Redeemer. The funeral services were conducted by Dr. ERVIN, her pastor, to a large congregation of her friends. After which her remains were carried to the family burying ground and laid to rest. Before I close I must say that she bore up under her affliction with patience and fortitude. When asked concerning death she remarked: “I would like to live but if it not the Lord’s will I am ready to go. She called her father to come to her bed side and then breathed her last with that pleasant smile on her face which always characterized her. – N.H. HILL.
