WILL OF JOHN BUCHANAN - 1866

Richmond County

I John Buchanan  being of sound mind and disposing memory do make and publish this my last will 
and Testament in manner and form following to wit:

Item first, I direct that my Executor hereinafter named to pay all my just debts.

Item sec. Having heretofore given my son Malcolm Buchanan his share of my estate and having provided 
for my daughter Elizabeth McNeill I give and bequeath Will and Devise unto my grand children John B. 
Buchanan Jas. C. Buchanan, William Buchanan, Alexander Buchanan (if alive) Edwin Buchanan Effie Jane 
Buchanan, Flora Buchanan and Catherine Buchanan all my lands Negroes, Stock and other property of 
whatever kind or description,with the exception hereinafter made, and to the survivor or survivors 
of them and their heirs.

Item 3d. I give and bequeath to my grandson  Jas. C. Buchanan and his heirs, four hundred and fifty 
acres of my land being on the West Side of Gum Swamp, formerly the property of my father William 
Buchanan decd.

Item 4th I do hereby constitute and appoint my son William Buchanan Executor of this my last  Will 
and Testament-given under my hand and seal this 13th day of July AD 1862 Signed Sealed and Published 
in the presense of

Richmond County                                               January Term AD  1867
                        
The foregoing purporting to be and contain the last will and testament of John Buchanan is exibited 
for probate in open court by John B. Buchanan and the due execution thereof by the said John Buchanan 
is proved in open court by the oath and examination of John G. Blue one of the subscribing witnesses 
thereto. It is therefore considered by the court that the said paper writing and every part thereof 
is the last will of the said John Buchanan decd. and the same is ordered to be recorded and filed
