THE FAMILY OF NOAH GIBSON

Researched and shared by Dennis Shelley      Posted February 15, 2004 by Myrtle Bridges

"This is what I have learned from obits, death certificates, family conversations, miles of roads traveled, and grave yards explored. I still have a few folks that I'd like to get more information for...and will be adding to this. I'd like to add ancestors of Noah to this file, and would greatly appreciate if you'd share in a similar format to ease and lessen typing or mistakes that I might encounter while adding . Please remember I will give credits for any information you may like to share. And I do not plan to sell or publish any family information in my data base. If I have any additional links in my data base that you'd like to connect with , Please let me know"... Dennis

LOCAL WOMAN DIES IN ANSON ACCIDENT

A one-car accident in Anson County, Monday, claimed the life of 81-year old Sarah Tunstall Bailey Gibson
of Bridgeman Circle, Laurinburg. Mrs. Gibson, a retired textile worker was killed instantly when the vehicle
in which she was a passenger went out of control and over-turned on a rural road near Wadesboro. Mrs. Gibson
was thrown through the rear glass of the vehicle which was driven by Jimmy Ray Britt, 18, of Lilesville.
State Highway Patrolman A. W. Whitlock reported that another passenger, Kathy Brigman, 63, of Lilesville
was injured and received treatment at a Wadesboro Hospital. The officer said the youth, who had had his
driver's license only nine months, apparently was driving at a high rate of speed. Whitlock explained
that Britt lost control on a curve and the Corvair skidded 223 ft. down the pavement, ran into the left
shoulder, traveled 51 feet on the shoulder. As the car came back onto the pavement, the patrolman said
the left rear wheel came off, the car skidded another 30 feet and flipped upside down. The vehicle then
skidded 35 feet across the highway on it's top and 67 feet down the shoulder, he continued. Young Britt
faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and driving too fast for conditions.

NOTE: James, "Jim" had curly red hair and his father would not allow anyone to cut his hair. He kept it long until about the age of 7 or 8. It caused him lots of problems at school. The children would pick on him. Then one day without anyone knowing, his uncle Henyard Stanley, took him to the barber in Laurinburg and had it cut off. He came back from town wearing a new straw hat and had his hair in his hands, which he gave to his parents. Hinyard Stanley married Ola Belle's sister, Blanche Ward. Jim died in a car wreck with his brother in Virginia. ( Carlene Hardee Dec 2003 )
