Rites Held for Preston O'Brien  - Gainsville Sun Newspaper - 1939
 
Funeral services for Preston O'Brien who died Sunday, May 7, were held Monday at the Hawthorne Episcopal Church, with 
Rev. H. T. Foley officiating, assisted by Rev. J. A. Kelly of the Baptist Church.  Interment was in the Hawthorne Cemetery.
The deceased had been in the mercantile business in Hawthorne since 1910, when he moved to that city from Ellerbe, N.C.  
He took an active part in civic and political affairs, having served on the town council and as president of the Hawthorne 
State Bank during its existence.He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, and Oddfellow, and a Pythian.
Survivors include his wife, Lila Catherine O'Brien;  a brother D. F. O'Brien, of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister Mrs. A. L. Loughlin, 
of Salisbury, N. C. and several nieces and nephews.  Mr. O'Brien was well know in this city.
Arrangements were in charge of the Thomas Funeral Home.
