Will of SAMUEL BECKNAL
January Term 1820

In the name of God Amen. I SAMUEL BECKNAL of the County of Wilkes and State of North Carolina being of sound and perfect mind and memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, in manner and form following, (to wit)
Item 1st. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife ELIZABETH BECKNALL one third part of my Estate of every description both real and personal all of which I give to her the aforesaid ELIZABETH BECKNAL and her heirs forever.
Item 2d. I give and bequeath to my daughter NANCY CAMP one dollar, which I give and bequeath to her & her Heirs forever.
Item 3d. I give and bequeath to my son THOMAS BECKNALL, one dollar, which I give to him and his Heirs forever.
Item 4th. I give & bequeath to my son JOHN BECKNAL, one dollar, which I give to him and his Heirs forever.
Item 5th. I give and bequeath to my son LINSFIELD BECKNALL one dollar, which I give to him and his Heirs forever.
Item 6th. I give and bequeath to my daughter JANE HULAND one dollar, which I give to her and her Heirs forever.
Item 7th. It is my will and desire that after the above legacies being given out of my Estate, that the balance of my Estate of every description, both real and personal be divided as follows, to wit, between my son BENJAMIN BECKNAL, RANDOLPH BECKNAL, RHODA BROWN, HANNAH STANLEY, and my wife's five children (to wit) LEWIS, LARKIN, ESCENITH, CLARA, and DOLLY, in equal shares; which I give and bequeath to them and their Heirs forever.
I nominate and appoint my trusty friends, my beloved wife ELIZABETH BECKNAL and CAPT. BENJAMIN LEWIS Executors to this my last Will and Testament, revoking and disannulling all wills heretofore made by me. I witness whereof I the aforesaid SAMUEL BECKNAL have set my hand and affixed my seal this my last Will and Testament, this 21st day of August A.D. 1819.

In the Name of God Amen. I ASEL CROSS of the County of Wilkes and State of North Carolina being low in health, but of perfect mind and memory, I will to my beloved wife TEMPERANCE CROSS, my crop of corn and fodder, two feather beds and all my household firniture of every description, fourteen head of hogs, and my farming tools, hogs heads and casks.
This is my last Will and Testament for which cause I have set my hand and seal.

In the name of God Amen, I RICHARD GOODE of the State of North Carolina and County of Wilkes being sick and weak in body but of perfect sence and memory thanks be to the Almighty God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die. I do make and ordain to be made this my Last Will and Testament in manner & form following. I leave my Soul to the Almighty that gave it to me hoping through the mercy of my blessed Saviour to inherit everlasting life and my body to be decently buried at the descretion of my Executors hereafter named, and as to all my worldly goods it hath pleased the Almighty God to bestow to me after all my just debts are paid, I have in manner and form following, I leave all my personal property to my beloved wife LUCY GOODE, in during her life or widowhood of the maintainance of my children. I leave to my Daughter BELINDA STEPHENSON five shillings. And after my wife's decease for the property to be equally divided among my children, WILLIAM GOODE, THOMAS GOODE, JOHN GOODE, ELVIRA GOODE, SPENCER GOOD, LUCY GOODE & FRANCES GOODE. I do hereby ordain this to be my last Will and Revoke all other Wills heretofore made by me, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 31st January 1819.

In the Name of God Amen, I BENJAMIN JONES SEN'R of the County of Wilkes & State of North Carolina being sick, but of sound and disposing mind & memory & calling to my mind the uncertainty of this mortal life, and the certainty of Death, & desirous of regulating my temporal affairs while I remain in this mortal life.
I first recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God my creator, who gave it unto me & my body to be buried in a decent Christian like manner at the descretion of my Executors hereafter named, & as touching such worldly substance wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this world. I dispose of in the following manner & form...to wit;
Item. I will that all my just debts be paid that I am owing of and all my debts that are owing unto me be collected by my Executors hereafter named.
Item. I give & bequeath after my decease unto my son BENJAMIN JONES my Negro boy named SAM.
Item. I give & bequeath after my decease unto my daughter MILDRED MARTIN my Negro boy named HARRY
Item. I give & bequeath after my decease unto my daughter LUCY CASS my Negro boy named GEORGE.
Item. I give & bequeath after my decease unto my daughter FANNEY ROBINETT my Negro girl named CHANA.
Item. I give & bequeath after my decease unto my grand daughter ELIZABETH LOUISA ROBINETT my Negro girl named LEAH.
Item. I give unto my beloved wife ELIZABETH JONES during her natural life the use of my plantation whereon I now live & the following Negroes, to wit, CECE, NELL, MARY & TONEY, also two horses my stock of cattle, sheep & hogs, with my household furniture & kitchen furniture & my working tools of every kind.
Item. I give & bequeath after my decease unto my son BENJAMIN JONES two hundred dollars out of the money that JOHN MARTIN owes me.
Item. I give & bequeath after my decease unto my daughter LUCY CASS two hundred dollars out of the money that JOHN MARTIN owes me.
Item. I give & bequeath after my decease unto my daughter FANNEY ROBINETT one hundred & seventy dollars out of the money that JOHN MARTIN owes me.
Item. I will that my Executors hereafter named pay the money to BENJAMIN JONES above mentioned also the money above mentioned to LUCY CASS & FANNEY ROBINETT.
Item. I give & bequeath after my decease & my wife's ELIZABETH JONES the ballance of my Estate both real & personal to be equally divided between PHOEBE ROBINETT, BENJAMIN JONES, ELIZABETH THURMOND, LUCY CASS, MILDRED MARTIN & FANNY ROBINETT.
Item. I leave that part of my Estate that fall to my daughter PHOEBE ROBINETT in the hands of JOHN MARTIN & my son BENJAMIN JONES in trust for my daughter PHOEBE ROBINETT's use during her life & then to go to the heirs of my daughter PHOEBE ROBINETT in equal shares or positions.
I nominate & appoint JOHN MARTIN & my son BENJAMIN JONES Executors to this my last Will & Testament revoking all other wills by me heretofore made, & do by these presents ratify and confirm this to be my only last Will & Testament. In witness whereof I the said BENJAMIN JONES hath hereunto set my hand & seal the 8th day of July 1820.

Will of WILLIAM LEWIS
July Term 1820

In the name of God Amen. I WILLIAM LEWIS of the State of North Carolina and Wilkes County being weak in body but sound in mind & memory and bearing in mind that it is appointed for all men to die, do make and ordain this as my last Will & Testament revoking all others made by me heretofore. And first I bequeath my body to the Earth from whence it came & to be buried at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named & the expenses thereof paid by my Executor hereafter named & the expences thereof paid by my Executor hereafter named & I recommend my soul to God who gave it me.
Secondly my will & desire is that all my just and debts be paid out of my Estate, & as to the rest of my Estate, I give & bequeath in the following manner (to wit) I give & bequeath to my beloved wife the half of my land & the half of the plantation whereon I now live. Half of the orchard including the dwelling house where I now live to her during her natural life, together with all my household furniture of every kind, and all my farming tools, except one mattock & one iron wedge, which I give to my beloved son NATHANIEL LEWIS, & I also give & bequeath to my said wife JEAN LEWIS four head of cattle, & all my stock of hogs & sheep all which stock & furniture above mentioned I give to my said wife JEAN LEWIS her heirs & assigns forever.
I also give to my daughter SARAH HAMBRY one brown cow to her, & her heirs & assigns forever. I also give to my grand daughter ELISABETH LEWIS one feather bed & furniture & one red heifer to her & her heirs & assigns forever. I also give to my daughter in law, NANCY LEWIS one dollar. I also give to my son NATHANIEL LEWIS my rifle gun & half my land & plantation & after my wife's decease I give & bequeath to my said son NATHANIEL LEWIS the other half of my land and plantation whereon I now live to him his heirs and assigns forever. I do hereby appoint my son NATHANIEL LEWIS Executor of this my Last Will & Testament.
In testimony whereof I the said WILLIAM LEWIS have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 18th day of January in the year of our Lord 1820.

In the name of God Amen I JOSEPH POURTER of the County of Wilkes and State of North Carolina being of sound & perfect mind & memory blessed be God, do this twenty eighth day of April in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty, make & publish this my Last Will & Testament in manner following, that is to say, first I give and bequeath to my beloved son JOSEPH POURTER the upper part of my land, down as far as FRANCIS POURTER's Spring Branch to his heirs and assigns forever; I do give & bequeath to my son FRANCIS fifty dollars to be raised out of my Estate after my decease. I also will that my son JOSEPH POURTER shall pay all my just debts that may come against my Estate after my decease, which money is to be raised out of my moveable property. I also give & bequeath unto my daughter MOLLEY one feather bed and furniture and the rest of my property to be sold to the highest bidder, and the amount to be divided among my heirs. I do hereby declare this to be my last Will and Testament revoking all others heretofore made by me. I do hereby appoint my trusty friends JOHN REYNOLDS SENR. and JOHN ROUSSEAU my Executors to this my last Will and Testament Signed, Sealed & delivered in the Presents of us the day and date above mentioned.

In the name of God amen, I BENJAMIN SEBASTON of the State of North Carolina and County of Wilkes being sick and weak but of a perfect sence and memory thanks be to the Almighty God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing it is apointed for all men once to die, I do make and ordain this to be made my last Will and testament in manner and form following, I leave my Soul to the Almighty that gave it to me hoping through the mercy of my blessed Saviour to inherit Everlasting life and my body to be decently buried at the descretion of my Executors here after mentioned and as to all my worldly goods it hath pleased the Allmighty God to bestow upon me I leave in manner and form following.
Item. I leave to my son WILLIAM SABASTON the whole of my Estate both real and personal. I say it is my desire for my son WILLIAM SEBASTON to let SUSANNA BARKER have one cow if he thinks he can do without it without discommoding himself. And I do hereby constitute and appoint my son WILLIAM SEBASTON Executor of this my last Will and Testament by me heretofore made and ratifying and alowing this to be my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I do set my hand and seal this 14th of November in the Year of our Lord 1817. I hereunto do set my hand and seal in the Presents of

In the Name of God Amen I ROBERT VIARS of the County of Wilkes & State of North Carolina, being weak in body yet of a sound mind & memory thanks be to God for this blessing & calling to mind the frailty of my body & knowing that it is appointed once for all men to die, do make & ordain this my Last Will & Testament in manner & form following, viz, first I will & positively order that all my just debts be justly & honestly paid.
Secondly, I leave to my beloved wife that part of my land, north of the top of the ridge that divides Reddies River & the Tumblin Shoal Creek while the remains in my name or until my youngest child becomes of age.
Thirdly, I also leave to my said wife full power to rent out, or sell to the highest bidder the remainder of my land & mill & to apply the money to the use of raising & schooling my two children namely NANCY MATILDA & JOHN BENNET, or at least so much thereof as may be sufficient, the remainder if any to be let out at interest untill they come of age.
Fourthly, I leave the whole of my personal estate to be applyed to the use of raising my children and paying my debts.
Fifthly my will and desire is that after my debts being paid & my children being raised, the whole of the remainder of my estate be equally divided between my said wife & my two children.
Lastly I nominate and appoint my beloved friends WILLIAM POWELL SEN'R & JOHN VIARS Executors to this my last Will. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 15th day of July 1820.
