Haw River - Final rites will be held Sunday for Alson Gray Coble, 78, of Haw River, who died yesterday at 12:10 p.m. at a Burlington hospital after 11 days of serious illness.

A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Emory and Terlie Suitts Coble. He was a member of Haw River Methodist Church and of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Haw River Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Phoebe Ellen Dixon Coble of the home; six sons, William Hurley, John A., Abe and Curry Coble of Haw River, Thomas W. Coble of Graham and Charles E. Coble of Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Mrs. Tom Coble of Haw River; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one foster sister, Mrs. Grace Smith of Winston-Salem.

The body will remain at McClure Funeral Home in Graham until 3 p.m. Saturday, when it will be carried to the home. It will lie in state at the church for one hour before the funeral.

Haw River - Funeral services are planned tomorrow for Isaac M. "Ike" Hughes, 61, of Haw River, who died yesterday at 1:50 p.m. at his home after three weeks of illness.

A native of Haw River, Hughes operated a local service station for many years. He was son of the late Sam and Alice Tennie Hughes, and was a veteran of World War 1. He was a member of Haw River Methodist Church.

Final rites will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Haw River Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will remain at McClure Funeral Home in Graham until it is carried to the church to lie in state for 30 minutes before the funeral.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lila Dale Bullard Hughes, of the home; two sons, William Burley and Samuel Bullard Hughes of Haw River; and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Bertha Coble Holt, 53, died at her home, 213 Driver avenue, Durham, this morning at 5:40 o'clock following a brief critical illness.

She was a native of the Kimesville community of Guilford county, a daughter of the late Robert Coble and Mary Coley Coble. Funeral service will be conducted at the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. J. A. Martin of Carr M. E. Church, Durham, and the body will be brought to Trollinger cemetery, Haw River, for burial.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Thomas Holt; her mother, Mrs. Mary Coley Coble; eight sisters, Mesdames W. W. Askew this city; W. M. Tew, Ossipee; W. P. Parrish, Henderson; H. A. Adams, and W. M. Cook, Durham; J. S. Herbey, Portsmouth, Va.; Walter Glenn, Durham, and Mrs. R. S. Williamson, High Point; one brother, Bun Coble, Durham.

Mrs. Holt was a member of the Haw River M. P. Church.

Mrs. Alice Hughes, aged 77, of Haw River, died at 9:45 Sunday morning, ending three days serious illness. She was the widow of the late Sam Hughes, a native of this county, and daughter of the late Isaac and Nancy Murray.

Services will be held in the Haw River Methodist church of which the deceased has been a member for the past 50 years, at 3 p. m. today. The body will lie in state for one hour preceding the funeral at the church. Rev. F. R. Pfisterer will be in charge.  The interment will be made in the Haw River cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Ike Hughes, and a daughter, Mrs. J. M. Baker, both of Haw River; one sister, Mrs. Frona Purcell of Durham; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Final rites for Mrs. Lila Dale Bullard Hughes, 64, who died at her home here Wednesday night, were conducted yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Haw River Methodist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Goodwin, pastor of the church, and music was by the church choir with Mrs. Frances Martin as soloist and Miss Thelma Cates, organist, as accompanist.

Pallbearers were Roger Ingram, Wilbert Nash, W. D. Goodman, Robert Andrews, Guy Crutchfield and Grover Phillips.

Mrs. Fannie Sykes was in charge of flowers, assisted by Mesdames Maggie Smith, Margie Sykes, W. C. Thomas, C. G. Welborn,  D. A Allen, Ella Clark, J. L. Hughes, H. T. Goss, Monroe Wood, E. L. Perry, H. E. Bowman, W. T. Brooks, A. B. Swing, J. Purcell, Miss Betty Best and Ruth Cates.

Until the past few months the deceased had been leading an active life. For many years he was --- with the textile industry of the town and lately had been in the filling station business. He was also active in his church.

The church was filled for the funeral service, and the floral tribute was large. The pallbearers were; W. J. Crutchfield, W. C. Thomas, Romie Fowler, Joe Brooks, L. C. Bain and Goss Cheek. Thomas Larry Hughes, 5 weeks-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Burley Hughes died at a Durham hospital yesterday afternoon after an illness of four days.

Funeral services were to be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the graveside at New Cemetery in Haw River with the Rev. Joseph Coble officiating.

Surviving are the parents of Haw River; two brothers, Billy and Donald, a sister, Sandra, all of the home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Hughes of Haw River and Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Mixon of Mebane; one great grandparents, Mrs. S. J. Hughes of Haw River and J. W. Straughn of Mebane.

Haw River - Final rites for James Madison McClure, 87, of Haw River will be held Thursday morning at 11 o'clock at Haw River United Methodist Church.

Mr. McClure died Tuesday Morning [Nov. 10, 1972].

The Rev. William L. Wolfe, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will remain at McClure Funeral Home in Graham until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 8:30 o'clock.

Haw River - Final rites for Mrs. Dora Myrtle McClure, 76, of Haw River, were held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at Haw River Methodist Church. Mrs. McClure died Saturday night a 8 o'clock in a Durham Hospital after several years of failing health.

A native of Randolph County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Garrett.

Surviving are her husband, James Madison McClure; two sons, Harry E. McClure of Burlington and David Stockard McClure of Haw River; a sister, Mrs. George Kimrey of Haw River.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Funeral services were held in the Haw River M. P. church for Crawford M. Ray, aged 50 years, who died at his home at Haw River Tuesday morning, following illness of three weeks. Rev. Mr. Chambliss, his pastor, was in charge, assisted by Rev. A. C Holler, and the body interred in the church cemetery. A large crowd was present as an evidence of their high esteem for the deceased, and the floral offering was unusually large.

Pall-bearers were D. M. Johnson, A. D. Wiggins, E. H. Steele, Floyd Snipes, I. N. Hughes and C. A. Smith, three of them Odd Fellows and three Red Men, to both of which the deceased belonged. The remaining members of both lodges were honorary pall bearers. Flowers were in charge of Miss Pearl Smith, and were carried by Misses May and Alma Bullard, Violet and bonnie Pearson, Louise and Thelma Thompson, Mattie Payne, Espie McCracken, Rosa Cole, Louise Coble, Alice Tew, Claude Clark, Nellie Terrell, Irene and Jessie Isley, Espie Bullard, Thelma Riley, and Iola Williams, and Mrs. Wallie Rice.

Haw River - The funeral for Mrs. Nancy Hughes Ray, 70, of Haw River, was held yesterday, afternoon at Haw River Methodist Church.

She died Monday at 1:25 p.m. at her home here after five weeks serious illness. A native of Haw River, she was the daughter of the late Jerry Lee and Seddie Holt Hughes.

Survivors include four sons, Samuel Haywood Ray and James Carl Ray of Haw River, Ben L. and Crawford M. Ray of Burlington; one daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Ray Roney of the home; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Bullard of Haw River; one brother, Ben Hughes of Haw River; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Final services were conducted by Rev. D. M. Sharpe, pastor, assisted by Rev. Robert Bruhn, pastor of Haw River Baptist Church. Music was by the combined chairs of the Haw River Methodist and Baptist Churches. Miss Mary Frances Williamson was organist.

Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers included G. B. Bason, J. B. Hughes, Willard Abernathy, Chester Riley, Finley Allen and J. I. Bullard.

Mrs. Edna Etta Smith, 32, of Haw River, died at her home at 7:30 o'clock last night following an illness of 10 months. She was a native of Alamance county, the daughter of C. L. Reed and the late Mrs. Nancy Callahan Reed.

The hour and date of funeral services have not been arranged, but will be conducted from the Haw River Methodist Protestant church, of which she was a member. The services will be in charge of Rev. R. S. Troxler and Rev. R. G. Dawson.

Survivors are; husband, Herbert Smith; daughter, Julia Fay Smith, the home; father, C. L. Reed, Haw River; sisters, Mrs. W. H. Coble and Mrs. M. H. McBride, Haw River; brothers, Charles Reed, Sanatonia, Texas; Glenn Carl and Donald Reed, Haw River.

Mrs. Julia Anne Smith, 74, well known resident of Haw River, died this morning at 7 o'clock at her home, following an illness of four months. She had spent her entire life in Haw River, and was the daughter of the late Connie Cornelius Collier and Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Keck Collier.

Mrs. Smith was a charter member of the Christian church of Haw River, and is survived by the following children; A G. and Eugene Smith, both of Burlington; Herbert, of Haw River; Mrs. Fannie Sykes, Miss Pearl Smith, both of Haw River, and Mrs. T. S. Purcell, of East Durham, a half sister, Mrs. W. L. Brandburg, of Burlington; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service, will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Thursday after noon at the M. P. church in Haw River by the Rev. G. C. Crutchfield, assisted by Revs. J. P. Pegg and Everett Neese. Interment will be in the Haw River cemetery.
