Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Moore's Chapel Baptist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A native of Gaston County, he was a retired employee of Dixie Yarns. Surviving are wife, Mrs. Henrietta Bowen Barrett; daughters, Mrs. Pauline Crutchfield of Graham, Mrs. Kay Thompson, Mrs. Shirley Christopher, both of Saxapahaw; son, Marshall E. Barrett of Gastonia; sister, Mrs. Helen Thomas of Henderson; eight grandchildren. The Burlington Daily Times-News August 12, 1969 Dock Mack Blackwell GRAHAM -- Dock Mack Blackwell, 72, of rt. 1, Graham, died unexpectedly in a Burlington hospital this morning at 6:35 o'clock after several years of declining health and three days of critical illness. A native of Columbus County, he was the son of the late George and Mae Ann Strickland Blackwell. He was a member of Moore's Chapel Baptist Church and a retired employe of Sellers Manufacturing Co. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Orph Herring Blackwell of the home. Final rites will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at Moore's Chapel Baptist Church. The Rev. R. Eugene Akins, pastor, will conduct the service, assisted by the Rev. Harley Anderson. Burial will follow in Moore's Chapel Cemetery. The body will remain at McClure Funeral Home in Graham until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Boley SWEPSONVILLE -- Charles Garfield Boley, 90, of 100 Carolina St., Swepsonville, died Sunday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock in a Chapel Hill hospital following two weeks of illness. He was a native of Bridgeport, Tenn., son of the late William Henry an Laura Sawyer Boley. He was the husband of the late Emma Whitson Boley. He was retired employe of Sellers Manufacturing Co. in Saxapahaw and a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church at Rosman. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Fulton E. Galloway of Swepsonville and Mrs. Edith Elliott of Burlington; two sons, Julian Boley of Rt. 6, Burlington and O. A. Boley of Saxapahaw; 19 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. Final rites will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Moore's Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. Jack Ray, pastor, and the Rev. Charles Jones, pastor of Swepsonville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Moore's Chapel cemetery. The body will remain at McClure Funeral Home in Graham until taken to the church thirty minutes before the funeral. The Burlington Daily Times-News Sept. 26, 1956 George W. Bowers SAXAPAHAW--George W. Bowers, 87, died in a Chapel Hill hospital yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. He had been ill for the past several months. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Maggie McLean Bowers who died in March, 1955. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Eliza Robinson of Hayesville, Mrs. Mary Brawner of Saxapahaw, Mrs. Nora Overman of Greensboro, Mrs. Pearl Key of Jerrysville, W. Va.; five sons, Fred, Jim and Dan Bowers, all of Saxapahaw, Charlie Bowers of Tate City, Ga.; Robert Bowers of Hoguiam, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Addie Stevenson of Jutson. Fifty-five grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive. The funeral for Mr. Bowers will be held at Rich and Thompson Chapel Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Burial will be in Moore's Chapel Cemetery at Saxapahaw. Mr. Cheek, a native of Alamance County, was a veteran of WWII Pacific Theater, and a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps, VFW, and of Moore's Chapel Baptist Church of Graham. Survivors include one daughter, Jenny Rich (David), of Burlington; one son, Woody Cheek, of Creedmoor; twin brother, Albert Cheek (Nina) of Graham; two sisters, Mary Love, of Snow Camp, Claudia Harwell, of Asheboro; one grandson, Lee Cheek, of Creedmoor; special nephew, Glenn Cartner and other special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Cook Cheek; parents, Claude Marvin and Martha Virginia Madden Cheek; sisters, Sarah Lutterloh, Frances Plummer, Margaret Morris; and brother, Wade Cheek. He was a member of Glen Raven Baptist Church and was a driver for Bus Transit Company, having been a city bus driver for 27 years. The Burlington Daily Times-News Oct. 10, 1973 Hattie Petty GRAHAM -- Mrs. Hattie Johnson Petty, 90, of Rt. 1, Graham, died in a Burlington hospital Tuesday at 11:05 a.m. following a lengthy illness. A native of Danville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Virginia Thacker Johnson, and the widow of Ollie Petty. She was a member of Moore's Chapel Baptist Church and was a retired employe of Sellers Manufacturing Company. Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Lannie Wright of the home, Mrs. Louise Wicker and Mrs. Ollie Bowers, both of Burlington, Mrs. Caroleen Ursery. Saxapahaw, Mrs. Dillard Smith, Swepsonville, and Mrs. Betty Stout, Graham; son, Floyd Petty, Saxapahaw; foster daughter, Mrs. Tillie Owens, Burlington; sisters, Mrs. Ann Petty, Saxapahaw, Mrs. Lou Johnson, Rt. 1 Graham, Mrs. Earlie Johnson, Rt. 2, Graham; brothers, Boley Johnson, Saxapahaw, Harden T. Johnson, Rt. 2, Mebane; 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Final rites will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Moore's Chapel Baptist Church. The Rev. Jack Ray, pastor, the Rev. Gaither B. Reich, pastor of Saxapahaw Friends Church, and the Rev. Murray L. DeHart, pastor of Saxapahaw United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Burlington Daily Times-News August 14, 1956 Hardee John Stockard GRAHAM -- Hardee John Stockard, well-known businessman and former sheriff and deputy sheriff of Alamance County for many years, died at his home at 315 East Harden Street this morning at 6:30 o'clock. Mr. Stockard, who was 77, had been in failing health for three years and critically ill for one week. A native and lifelong resident of Alamance County, he served a total of 28 years as county sheriff and deputy sheriff before leaving the law enforcement field in 1938. He was the son of the late John W. and Margaret Ann Albright Stockard. He was sheriff from 1930 until 1938. After leaving law enforcement work he devoted his time to business interests and to his farm in the southern part of the county. He as a member of the board of directors of Graham Savings and Loan Association at the time of his death and formerly held a partnership in Woody's Hardware Company here for several years until he sold his interest to J. C. Woody about two years ago. He was a member of Graham Presbyterian Church for many years and was one of five men to be awarded a lifetime membership in the Alamance County Young Democrats Club. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sallie Morgan Stockard; one daughter, Mrs. W. C. McKee of New Bern; two sons, Lee R. Stockard and Ralph M. Stockard, both of Graham; three sisters, Mrs. Sallie S. Magness of Long Island, N.Y., Miss Jessie Stockard of Salisbury and Mrs. Julie S. Wilson of Salisbury; one brother, Scott C. Stockard of Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The funeral will be held at McClure Funeral Home here tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. Rev. T. J. Whitehead, pastor of Graham Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Moore's Chapel Cemetery. Main St. was dead on arrival at a Burlington hospital at 1:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon. She was a native of West Virginia, daughter of the late William and Sally Brown Patterson. She was a member of Graham Presbyterian Church and was the wife of the late Dr. Robert M. Stockard Sr., who died in 1963. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Virginia S. Campbell of Graham; one son, Robert M. Stockard, Jr. of Graham; one sister, Mrs. L. R. Rice of Mebane; one brother, C. E. Patterson of Mebane, and two grandchildren. Final rites will be held at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning at Graham Presbyterian Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. W. W. Peters, pastor. Burial will follow in Moore's Chapel Cemetery. He had been ill for the past two years and was critically ill for one day. A native of Durham County, he was the son of the late James S. and Mrs. Henretta Vickers. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lena Johnson Vickers of the home, a foster son, Buddy Collins of Saxapahaw, and one brother, Eugene Vickers of Durham. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at Saxapahaw Friends Church. Rev. W. A. Seawell, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Moore's Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. White was born in Fauguier County, VA. to the late Marion J. Phillips and the late Edith White Hackley. She was a member of Moore's Chapel Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughter, Mary D. Williams (Jesse) of Mebane; sons Sherman Davis of Salisbury; Carlton Davis (Norma) of Pittsboro; sisters, Virgina Bland of Raleigh; Carol Hackley of Amissville, VA; brother Franklin Williams of Amissville, VA. Six grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Suitter and brother Marion "Junior" Phillips. Services will be held Thursday, October 21st at 2 p.m. at Moore's Chapel Baptist Church, officiating will be the Rev. John Chick. Burial will be in Moore's Chapel Cemetery.
