Department of the Interior,

Washington, D.C. July 13, 1869,

Sir:
The papers of Rachel Webster, widow of
Charles Webster, a soldier of the war of 1812, have
been examined.
She alleges that her husband died at
Norfolk, Va. in the year 1814, but does not give the
date; and Anderson Thompson, who professes to have
been a member of the same company, also testifies
to his death, at that place, from fever, while in
the service. On examining the rolls however, it is
shown that the soldier did not enter the service until
November 1814, and was discharged on the 22d February
1815, with this company. Unless it could be clearly
proved that he died at a particular time and place,
and from a disease contracted in the line of his duty,
his widow would not be entitled to a pension.

                                                                             I am, respectfully
R. W. Walker, Esq                                               Your obt. Servant,
