Mrs. Cornelia Allen
Graham - Mrs. Cornelia Paris Allen, 90, of Rt. 2, Graham, died this morning at 6 o'clock in a Chapel Hill convalescent center following several years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Johnston Paris and Sarah Moore Paris. She was a member of Moores Chapel Baptist Church.
Surviving is her husband, William Butler Allen of the home, and several nieces and nephews.
Final rites will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at eh Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham, conducted by the Rev. Jack Ray, pastor of Moore's Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will be in the cemetery of Salem United Methodist Church.
The body will remain at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham, and the family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 until 9 o'clock.

Retired Staff Sgt. Robert Hugh Bean
Graham — Retired Staff Sgt. Robert Hugh “Butch” Bean, 57, of 1509 Marimack Drive, died at 11:19 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at the United States Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Brenda Smith Bean, who survives, and the son of Mr. Dallas Hurley Bean Sr. and Mrs. Nellie Pendergraph Bean, both deceased. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service, and was a food service instructor and dining facility manager. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, was a life member of the VFW Post 4407 in Gulf Breeze, Fla., a member of the American Legion Post, and the Elk’s Lodge No. 2787. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal six times, the National Defense Service Medal, the Overseas Service Medal three times and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon twice.
Other than his wife of the home, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Cindy Smithart of Columbia, S.C.; a son, Mr. Johnathan Bean of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Vitha Morse of Burlington, Mrs. Bobbie Pickard of Graham and Mrs. Brenda Toth of Gastonia; and four brothers, Mr. Delbert Bean and Mr. Dallas Bean Jr., both of Graham, Mr. William Thomas Bean of Fort Myers, Fla., and Mr. Gary Bean of Burlington.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Salem United Methodist Church cemetery by Dr. Jeff Arthurs and the Rev. Carson Wiggins.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Janie Page, 2717 Thompson Lane, Swepsonville.

Clyde Aldeen Boggs
Haw River — Clyde Aldeen Boggs , 83, of 1054 Trollingwood Road, died Sunday, June 12, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham.
Born in Surry County, he was the husband of Nell Coble Boggs who survives, and the son of Columbus Jackson and Nelia Ross Boggs. He was retired from Western Electric where he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church where he was a member of the Golden Agers. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and received the Purple Heart.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Sylvia (Chris) Teague of Snow Camp and Linda (Steve) Smith of Haw River; two sons, Vernon Boggs of Haw River and Ray (Kimberly) Boggs of Southport; a stepdaughter, Sue (David) Malone of Haw River; a stepson, Jimmy D. (Karen) Crawford of Burlington; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight step grandchildren and two great step grandchildren; three sisters, Annie Armstrong of Mebane, Katie (Don) Bowden of Elon and Virginia (Larry) Terrell of Burlington; two brothers, Howard "Happy" (Gail) Boggs of Graham and George "Joe" Boggs of Chapel Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Wilson, Edith Boggs and Jean Williams; and two brothers, Roy Boggs and Fred Boggs .
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by Dr. Tommy Willis. Burial will be in Salem United Methodist Church cemetery.

Haw River — Dorothy Greeson “Dot” Boggs, 82, of 1030 Trollingwood Road, formerly of 1215 Meadow Lane, Graham, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at her residence. A native of Alamance County, she was retired from Lemco Mills and worked several years at Rich’s Café.
She was a member of North Graham Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia (Chris) Teague of Snow Camp and Linda (Steve) Smith of Haw River; two sons, Vernon Boggs of Haw River and Ray (Kimberly) Boggs of Southport, N.C.; a sister, Virginia Greeson Poe of Burlington; six brothers, Wayne (Elaine) Greeson, Jerry Greeson, and Ed (Glenda) Greeson, all of Graham, John “Pete” (Fannie) Greeson and Scott (Nina) Greeson, all of Haw River, and Gayle (Nellie) Greeson of Mebane; seven grandchildren, Alicia Allen, Clay (Brandy) Teague, Seth Teague, Lyndsey Boggs, Cheney Boggs, Jonathan Boggs, and Jessica Boggs; and one great-granddaughter, Natalie Teague.

Graham — Mrs. Margaret Marie Phillips Boggs , 83, of 5463 Boggs Trail, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2005 at her residence.
A native of Alamance County, she was retired from Kayser-Roth Hosiery. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and attended Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy F. Boggs and Edna "Cookie" Modlin and husband Bill, all of Graham; two sons, Arnold R. Boggs and Michael Grumbles, both of Graham; a sister, Irma Lee Newlin of Graham; a brother, Harold Phillips and wife Wilma of Graham; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four great-stepgrandchildren; and a very special friend, George "Buddy" Paris of Mebane.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Vance Boggs ; son, Phillip Michael Boggs ; parents, George Phillips and Ola Mae Smith Phillips; and sister, Deloris Lloyd.

Graham — Rachel Dodson Bradshaw, 77, of 4703 Salem Church Road, Haw River, died at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Wilson Lee Bradshaw, and the daughter of the late John Milton Dodson and Clara Inez Dodson. She was employed with Alphabet in Mebane and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Larry Wilson Bradshaw; four grandchildren, Larry Todd (Barbara) Bradshaw, Lisa Michelle (Jim) Faircloth, Michael Craig (Frances) Bradshaw, and Jason Mark Bradshaw; six great-grandchildren, Kimberly Freshwater, Scotty Bradshaw, Selina Bradshaw, Taylor Bradshaw, Kara Bradshaw, and Lee Bradshaw; one great-great-grandchild, Austin Noah Morrison; a sister, Margie Dodson of Tennessee; two brothers, Bill (Fran) Dodson of Kentucky and Albert (Geraldine) Dodson of Garner; and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Graham — Craig William Brannan, 56, of 5152 Mineral Springs Road died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
A native of Baltimore, Md., he retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include wife Ellen Ross Brannan of the home; a daughter, Audrey Brannan Kontoulas and husband Timothy of Mebane; father Noah L. Brannan of Bel Air, Md.; three sisters, Carol Suit of Dundalk, Md., Theresa Varipatis of Phoenix, Md.; and Lee Crush of Joppa, Md.; two brothers, Michael Brannan of Townson, Md., and Garry Brannan of Balitmore, Md.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Marie Harper Brannan.

Graham — Mr. Henry Clyde Buckner, 80, of 2147 Saxapahaw-Bethlehem Church Road, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at his home after several months of failing health.
A native of Chatham County, he was the husband for 54 years to Mrs. Marie Paris Buckner, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Olon Milton Buckner and Mrs. Blannie Johnson Buckner, both deceased.
He was retired from Flav-O-Rich Inc. in Durham. He was a charter member of Meadow Creek Ruritan Club, where he had 13 years of perfect attendance, and was a member of Saints Alive Senior Citizens Club. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees and was former Sunday school superintendent.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Henry Nelson Buckner of Burlington and Mr. Michael Green Buckner of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Buckner Smith of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Bobby Lineberry Buckner of Pittsboro; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services wee held at Salem M. P. Church, near Saxapahaw, yesterday afternoon at 2:30 for Mrs. Maude Geraldine Cates aged 45, wife if H. M. Cates, who died at their home near Saxapahaw Tuesday night at 10 o'clock, following a short illness. Her pastor, Rev. O. C. Loy, Jr., was in charge of the service, assisted by Rev. B. L. Gupton, and the body was interred in the church cemetery.

Haw River – Mr. Robert Lee “Bobby” Clark, 61, of 3190 Mount Willen Road, died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center, after five months of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Henry Clark and Mrs. Cora Dodson Clark, both deceased. He was a retired police officer from Graham Police Department and a retired owner of Bobby’s Lounge and Mebane Pawn Shop. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Sherry C. Kernodle of Liberty; and a brother, Mr. Raymond W. Clark of Greensboro.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Lula Mae Smith and Mrs. Betty Jean Evans Freeman; and a brother, Mr. Lonnie Edward Clark.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Dianne Smith Crawford, who survives, and the son of Mr. Taylor Ray Crawford and Mrs. Ophelia Long Crawford Thompson, both deceased. He was employed by Mebane Lumber Co., and was a Baptist.

Graham — Mrs. Lula Mae Shore Crawford, 91, of 4865 N.C. 54 East, (P.O. Box 1271), died at 6:18 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2002, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after five years of declining health, one day critical.
A native of Davidson County, she was the wife of the late Dewey L. Crawford, and the daughter of the late Guthrie L. Shore and Ida Hepler Shore. She was a homemaker and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, a former Sunday school teacher, a Bible school coordinator, and a member of the Louise Poole Sunday school class.

A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Robert Anderson Crutchfield and Mrs. Alice Thompson Crutchfield, both deceased. He was retired from Collins Aikman, and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Millard (Snowdene) Denson of Burlington and Mrs. Gordon (Mary) Sumner of Haw River; three brothers, Mr. Thomas Glenn Crutchfield of Graham, Mr. R. Donald Crutchfield of Haw River and Mr. Truby R. Crutchfield of Mebane.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Nerata Hodgin and Mrs. Kathryn Perry.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Salem United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Jeff Arthurs, pastor. The family will be at the fellowship hall of the church following the service.
The family will be at the home of Mrs. Gordon (Mary) Sumner, 3214 Mount Willen Road in Haw River.

Mebane — Mr. Truby Rudolph Crutchfield, 72, of 2505 Mebane Oaks Road, Mebane, died suddenly at his residence on Monday, July 11, 2005 at 9:00 a.m.
A native of Alamance County, he was husband of Frances Smith Crutchfield, who survives, and the son of Robert Anderson Crutchfield and Lizzie Alice Thompson Crutchfield, both deceased. He was a retired textile employee and a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a son, Mr. Tony Crutchfield and wife, Kristen, of Haw River; a daughter, Mrs. Trudie Neal and husband, Johnny, of Haw River; two sisters, Mrs. Snowdene Denson and husband, Millard, of Burlington and Mrs. Mary Sumner and husband, Gordon, of Haw River; two brothers, Mr. Donald Crutchfield of Haw River and Mr. Glenn Crutchfield of Graham; two grandchildren, Jared Neal and Leah Crutchfield; and two brothers-in-law, Mr. Bernard Hodgin of Graham and Mr. Talmadge Perry of Graham.

A native of Alamance County, Mrs. Denson was the wife of Millard D. Denson and daughter of the late Robert Anderson Crutchfield and Alice Thompson Crutchfield. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Surviving other than her husband of the home are a son, M. Dalton Denson, Jr. and wife Candy of Wilmington; a sister, Mrs. Mary Sumner and husband Gordon of Haw River; and two brothers, Donald Crutchfield of Haw River and Glenn Crutchfield of Graham. Mrs. Denson was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Nerata Hodgin and Mrs. Kathryn Perry and two brothers, J. W. Crutchfield and Truby Crutchfield.

Mr. Durham was a prominent farmer in the community and had been a class leader in the Salem M. P. Church for the past 40 years.

Mrs. Helen Davis Foushee
Pittsboro — Mrs. Helen Davis Foushee, 85, of Pittsboro, died Jan. 18, 2006, at the Laurels of Chatham.
Born May 16, 1920, in Alamance County, she was a daughter of Wilson and Chlora Bristow Davis. Helen was a charter member of Burlington First Wesleyan Church, and attended Gum Springs Baptist Church in Moncure. She worked for a number of years for May Hosiery in Burlington, but retired as a switchboard operator from UNC Hospitals in 1980. Helen also got a degree as a CNA.
Helen was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Coy Willard Stainback; and also by seven brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Clifton Foushee; a son and daughter-in-law, Davis and Priscilla Stainback of Burlington; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Robie Gray of Danville, Va.; a stepson, Ralph Foushee of Moncure; a stepdaughter, Evelyn Williams of Moncure; a sister and brother-in-law, Polly and Ernie Dudley of Springfield, Ill.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and two great-step grandchildren.
The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Helen Foushee will be conducted by Pastor Steve Saunders and Pastor Leonard Nix at 11 a.m. Friday at Griffin
Funeral Home in Pittsboro. Interment will follow in Salem Methodist Church cemetery in Haw River.

Snow Camp — Infant Logen Brook Franklin, of 7276 South N.C. 49, Snow Camp, N.C., died at 2:37 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2002, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C. after a lifelong battle with a heart condition.
Logen was born March 2, 2002, at Alamance Regional Medical Center to her parents David Shawn Franklin and Paula Renee Dickey Franklin, who survive of the home.

Mrs. Gilley Passes in Leaksville
Mrs. Bessie Gilley, aged 38 years, wife of Edgar Gilley, did last evening at 7:45 in the Leaksville hospital.
She was a resident of Spray, but went there recently from the Swepsonville section, where she spent most of her life. The body was brought to Rich & Thompson's establishment here yesterday and this morning carried to the home of her brother, Joseph Overman, of Swepsonville.

A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of Mrs. Barbara Stewart Hamby, who survives, and the son of the late Melvin W. Hamby and Annie Scarborough Hamby. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he was president of the Men’s Sunday school class.

Graham — Mr. J. Earl Hamby, 59, of 3124 Oakridge Drive, Graham, died suddenly at Stokes Reynolds Hospital in Danbury, N.C. on Sunday, January 1, 2006 at 2 p.m.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Darnell Jackson Hamby, who survives, and the son of the late William Alexander Hamby and Mrs. Dillie Bradshaw Hamby, who survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during the Vietnam War and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, active in the international and local missions, president of the New Disciples Sunday school class, and an active member of the Lay Leadership Team. He was a member of the Meadow Creek Ruritan Club and the Tarheel Paddles Club.
In addition to the wife of the home and the mother of Graham, survivors include a son, Shawn Alexander Hamby and wife, Kelly, of Graham; a sister, Ms. Mildred Diane Keck of Sunset Beach; and one grandchild, Lia Hamby.
The funeral will be conducted at Salem United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. David Girod. Burial will follow in the church cemetery . The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Graham — Mrs. Gertrude Sykes Ingold, 72, of 2409 Saxapahaw-Bethlehem Church Road, died at 6:10 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 1999, at her home after three years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Orange County, she was the wife of Mr. Homer L. Ingold, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. James Brady Sykes and Mrs. Alice Dodson Sykes, both deceased. She was retired from Dixie Yarns and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class and was a former choir member.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Peggy) Crabtree of Graham; two sons, Mr. James L. Ingold of the home and Mr. Bobby D. Ingold of Graham; a brother, Mr. J. Hubert Sykes of Mebane; and four grandchildren.

Graham - John Robert Ingold, 84, of Rt. 2, Graham, died at his home Sunday morning at 6:50 o'clock after several years of failing health and five months of critical illness.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Peter Arlindo and Rachel Boone Ingold.
He was the husband of the late Mrs. Cora Ray Ingold and a member of Salem United Methodist Church, and was a retired farmer.
He is survived by one daughter, Mr. [sic] Wade Foust of Rt. 2, Graham; two sons, Homer and Edgar Ingold, both of Rt. 2 Graham; one sister Mrs. Willard Powell of Winston-Salem; and one brother, J. S. Ingold of Rt. 1, Haw River.
Final Rites will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Salem United Methodist Church. The Rev. Carson O. Wiggins, pastor, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. George W. Thompson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The body will remain at the home of his son, Homer Ingold of Rt. 2, Graham, until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

Graham — Mrs. Jennette Huckaby Layton , 86, formerly of Graham, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Palmer Hinson First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham, N.C. after several years of declining health.
She was born September 19, 1918, in Kannapolis, N.C., a daughter of the late Henry and Cecile Huckaby. She was wife of the late Ross Layton . She was a member of the Graham Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are three daughters, Marie Barrett and husband, Darrell, of Graham, N.C., Jo Ann Skinner and husband, Gerry, of Jacksonville, N.C., and Joyce Graham and husband, Jim, of Rockingham, N.C.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Russie Matthews of Charlotte, N.C.

Mr. Gerald Anderson Lewis, 64, loving husband, father and grandfather, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Moses Cone Hospital.
The funeral for Mr. Lewis will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, N. Elm Street Chapel, with the Rev. David Lewis Staton officiating. Interment will follow in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Haw River.
Mr. Lewis was born in High Point on Feb. 22, 1937, the son of the late Crafton "P.C." and Nellie Matthews Lewis and had been a resident of Greensboro since 1960. He graduated from Western Carolina University in 1959 and was a retired engineer with Bell South. Mr. Lewis was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, St. Johns United Methodist Church and a former member of the National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Maymie Jo Summey Lewis; two sons, Steven Crafton Lewis and wife, Laurie of Cary and Neal Anderson Lewis and wife, Kathy of Naples, Fla.; two granddaughters, Paige and Parker Lewis.

She was a longtime employee of Burlington Industries and was retired from the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department.

Mr. James Jackson Paris
Graham — Mr. James Jackson “Uncle Jack” Paris, 80, of 5475-A Swepsonville-Saxapahaw Road, died at 1:02 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2001, at his son’s residence after two years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Essie Leach Paris and the son of Mr. George Walker Paris and Mrs. Bennie Durham Paris, both deceased. He was owner and operator of Jack Paris Store for 55 years. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he was in the Men’s Bible Class.
He was an Alamance County commissioner from 1968 to 1972 and from 1976 to 1984.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, and was a member of the Thomas M. Holt Masonic Lodge No. 492 AF and AM. He was a lifetime member of the Burlington Shrine Club and was a member of the American Legion Post, Snow Camp. He was manager of the 54 Ramblers during the 1950s.

Burlington — Mrs. Virginia P. Ray, 76, of 625 N. Mebane St., died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at her residence after a brief illness.
A native of Rockingham County, she was the daughter of the late John R. Purgason and Kate Lawrence Purgason. She was retired from Old Dominion Box Company and Carolina Box Company, and was of the Baptist faith.

Mebane - Mrs. Seelene Thompson Shoe, of Rt. 2, Mebane, died at her home at 2 p.m. Friday following six months of failing health.
She was a native of Alamance County, daughter of the late William B. and Rebecca Ray Thompson. She was a registered nurse and had done private duty at Alamance County and Memorial Hispital of Alamance. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.

Guthrie L. Shore died last night in local hospital
Guthrie L. Shore, aged 45 years, prominent farmer of Thompson township, Route 7, Graham, died last night at 9 o'clock in a local hospital, where he was brought the day before in a last effort to save his life, after five weeks of illness. He was a native of Randolph county, but lived in Alamance a number of years.
He is survived by his wife and the following children, Mrs. Lula May Crawford, Misses Elizabeth, Elizabeth Jessie, Mary Katherine and Ollie and Josephus, Walter, Charles and Dewey Shore.
Route 1, Haw river, and by three brothers, M. L. Shore, Raleigh; and J. C. and Dugan Shore, High Point.
He was a consistent member of Salem M. P. Church, and funeral service will be held there tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. T. J. Whitehead, assisted by Rev. H. L. Isley and burial will be made in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Rachel S. Smith
Graham - Mrs. Rachel Sykes Smith, 81, of 2301-B John Thompson Road, died at 5:10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center after a one-day illness.
A native of Orange County, she was the wife of Mr. John H. Smith, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Steve B. Sykes and Mrs. Robena Jones Sykes, both deceased. She was retired from Sellars Manufacturing Co., and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Ann Braxton of Chapel Hill; two sons, Mr. Bryant H. Smith of Lorain, Ohio, and Mr. Clinton W. Smith of Graham; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Dellie S. Ray and a brother, Mr. Roland ``Bo'' Sykes.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Salem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Benjamin Kelly, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham this evening from 7 to 9, and at other times at the home.

William Jess Smith
Haw River - William Jess Smith, 83, of Rt. 1, Haw River, died at his home this morning at 6 o'clock following two and one-half years of failing health and four weeks of critical illness.
A native of Chatham County, he was a son of the late Manly Baker Smith and Mrs. Sarah Hackney Smith. A well known retired carpenter and farmer, he was the husband of Mrs. Nezzie Crutchfield Smith, who died on Sept. 21 of this year.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Odell Dodson and Mrs. Curtis Dodson, both of Rt. 1, Haw River; three sons, Rezzie R. Smith of Rt. 2, Graham, John W. Smith of Rt. 2, Snow Camp, and Clarence H. Smith of Avon Park, Fla.; one brother, Percy E. Smith of Rt. 1, Haw River; five grandchildren and two great - grandchildren.
Final rites will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at Salem Methodist Church by the pastor, Rev. Horace Ferguson, assisted by a former pastor, Rev. William A. Seawell, and Rev. Jack C. Shore, pastor of Belmont Methodist Church.
The body will remain at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock.

Graham - Mrs. Peggy Crutchfield Stafford, 61, of 117 Southern High School Road died Oct. 25, 1992, at Alamance County Hospital.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Alamance County, she was a registered nurse.
Surviving are husband, J. Haldean Stafford; daughter, Becky Stafford of High Point; son, Kenneth Stafford of Burlington; father, John C. Stafford of Graham; brother, Johnny Crutchfield of Graham; two grandchildren.

Mrs. Eva Henderson Tapp
Graham — Mrs. Eva Henderson Tapp, 85, died Thursday morning, Nov. 23, 2000, at Rehabilitation and Health Care of Chapel Hill, after a illness of three months. She was a former resident at 522 E. Pine St., Graham.
A native of Chapel Hill, she was the wife of the late Mr. David Thomas Tapp and the daughter of Mr. James H. Henderson and Mrs. Sally Williams Henderson, both deceased. She was retired from the Print Shop of Burlington Industries. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where she was a member and past president of the Women’s Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Emily T. Chadwick of Butner; a son, Mr. Randy Tapp of Snow Camp; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Arthurs. Burial will be in Salem Church Cemetery.

Graham — Mrs. Carnell Overman Thompson, 73, of 4844 Snow Camp Road, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at her home.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Benjamin H. “Ben” Thompson, and the daughter of Mr. Lacy Newlin Overman and Mrs. Hattie Rudd Overman, both deceased. She was retired from Greenwich Mills and was a former part-time employee of Carolina Biological. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. H. L. (Patsy) Harrelson of Graham; a son, Mr. Billy Ben Thompson of Graham; a brother, Mr. Gurney Overman of Mebane; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gary Wayne Tickle
Haw River — Mr. Gary Wayne Tickle, 55, of 4804 Salem Church Road, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Brenda Paris Tickle, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Alyse Brown Tickle, who survives, and the late Mr. James V. Tickle Jr. He was employed by Vocational Trades of Alamance and was a member of the Association of Retarded Citizens. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the S.M.I. Group, the New Disciples Sunday School Class and a former member of the Celebration Singers.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Burlington include four sisters, Mrs. Linda Carole Van Fleet, and Mrs. Sylvia Harris, both of Burlington, Ms. Rena Crumpler of Elon College and Mrs. Bette Anderson of Greenville, S.C.; and step-grandmother, Mrs. Maurine Brown of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Salem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jeff Arthurs, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Carson Olin "Lin" Wiggins Jr.
Pittsboro - Mr. Carson Olin "Lin" Wiggins Jr., 49, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Montgomery Memorial Hospital in Troy after a sudden illness.
The service to celebrate the life of Lin Wiggins will be conducted by the Rev. George W. Johnson at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pittsboro Baptist Church. A second service will be conducted by the Rev. Doug Lain at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Salem United Methodist Church in Haw River with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
Lin was born April 15, 1954, in Gaston County, the son of the Rev. Carson O. Wiggins Sr. and Moeine Weaver Wiggins. Lin was a 1972 honors graduate of Southern Alamance High School and graduated in 1976 from N.C. State University with a bachelors degree in engineering. He was a professional engineer and held licenses with both the N.C. and S.C. Board of Inspection. He was a former superintendent of bridges of N.C. in the 14-county area based in Siler City. Currently, Lin was the unit head for bridge maintenance and inspection for the N.C. DOT.
He was a loving husband and devoted father who loved his family, sports and hunting. It was said that he was a man of few words who never spoke badly about anyone. Lin attended Pittsboro Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Amy Moore Wiggins, of the home; a son, Bryan Wiggins, of Lakeville, Minn; two daughters, Karlie Wiggins of the home, Kady Wiggins of Lakeville, Minn.; his parents, the Rev. Carson and Mrs. Moeine Wiggins, of Haw River; a brother, Steve Wiggins, and his wife, Erin, of Kansas City, Mo.; four sisters, Deborah Furbish and her husband, Dean, Renee Lawing and her husband, Michael, and Joy Wiggins, all of Raleigh, Lisa Wiggins and her husband, Jerry Ward, of Clemmons; a number of nieces and nephews ,as well as a lot of loving friends.
Following the interment ceremony, the family will greet visitors in the church fellowship hall. The family will also greet friends and guests from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Griffin Funeral Service and Cremation in Pittsboro.

Haw River — Mrs. Ossie Overman Woody, of 5053 Salem Church Road, died at 5:45 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Liberty Commons in Burlington after several years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Carey E. Woody, and the daughter of the late John W. Overman and Margaret Paris Overman. She was a retired employee of Sellers Dyeing Co., and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Pride Overman and Lewis Overman.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
