John Philpott Will

Pasquotank Precinct

Nov. 9, 1694

In the name of God Amen: I John Philpott of the Precinct of Pascotank in the County afore Said being Sick & weak in body but Sound in mind & memory do make this my Laft will & testament hereby revoaking all other wills or will at any time here before me made and constitute and appoint this to be my Last will & testament in manner and form as  following

Impr:  I Give & Bequeath my Soul to God that gave it me and my body to the same to be decently buried according to the descretion of my Executors here after to be named.

Impr:  I Give and Bequeath my Plantation I now dwell on I give & bequeath to John Lawson Son of Nathaniel Lawson to him & his heirs forever.

Impr: I Give & bequeath all Cows & Calves to the Said John Lawson with all their increase forever and allso Six thousand pounds of Good merchantable pounds to buy him and gro: and my desire is that the said Child shall be brought up on the Said Plantation and to Live with his Grandmother as Long as She Shall Live or when he comes to the age of twenty one &  ?  and then my executors to payeth off  him with it and in the same time to continue in the hands of my executors

Item: I allow & give and bequeath to the Said John Lawson one breeding mare with her increase to be delivered to him when he comes to age.

Item:  I allow & give and bequeath to my Loving wife: Mary Philpott a dower and  complete maintenance out of my estate to her yearly pay and allow to her yearly & every year  as long as she shall Live to be payd to her by my Said Executor.

Item:  My other Plantation adjoining on the Land of Jno: Gilson on the South half on the Plantation of  Jno: Hawkins on the North half  I give & bequeath to my Sonn in Law: William Woolard to him & his heirs forever: and all other my estate real & personal      & all my rights & commodities after my Justs debts are paid and  all such Legacies as are before bargained and ordained after to be bequeathed & bargained & to my Said Sonn in Law Wm Woolard.

Item:  My Will & mind is that if the above said John Lawson should dye before he comes to age that  the Plantation bequeathed to him and the other Legacyes by me above given shall fall to my Sonn in Law: Wm Woolwood to him and his heirs forever ~

Impr:  I do appoint and constitute my Loving friends Daniel Akehurst & John Hawkins my Executors of this my Last will and testament to whom I give five pounds apiece.
