BIO: Born in Alexander County and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting at Camp Vance on 7 March 1864. Wounded in the left ankle at Gravel Hill, VA 28 July 1864. Retired from service on 25 February 1865 by reason of disability from wounds. He came home with an injured leg which was later removed on the kitchen table. He walked on a peg leg until he broke his hip. Then he had to crawl everywhere he went. He taught at Black Oak Ridge School while he had the peg leg. He was born 4 Feb 1845 and died 25 Aug 1918. He was married to Martha Elizabeth Pearson 24 Aug 1873 and after her death he married Rachel Rebecca Clanton 25 Nov 1880. Even though some records say he was born in Alexander County, 1845 was two years before Alexander County was formed.
