Alexander of Mecklenburg County, who served several terms as a member of the Legislature and speaker of the House of Commons.<\/p>\n<p>Alexander County is located in the foothills of the Brushy Mountains in western North Carolina. It is bordered on the south by the Catawba River and\u00a0Catawba County, on the west by\u00a0Caldwell County, on the north by Wilkes County, and on the east by\u00a0Iredell County. Taylorsville, incorporated in 1851, is the county seat. Primary industries include agriculture, furniture, and textiles.<\/p>\n<p>The county is divided into eight townships: Bethelehem, Ellendale, Gwaltney, Little River, Sugar Loaf, Taylorsville, Wittenburg, and Stony Point.<\/p>\n<p>William E. White wrote a <a href=\"https:\/\/ncgenweb.us\/alexander\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/A-HISTORY-OF-ALEXANDER-COUNTY.doc\">History of Alexander County<\/a> in 1926.
