History:
Sometime around 1978, my Grandpa, Hercules Stanley, was on a quest to
find two cemeteries. My dad, Delane Stanley, purchased a four-wheel
drive International Scout to aid in the search. Going on Grandpa's
memory they found the gravesites. I remember that a few of them were
covered with conch shells to mark the graves. Dad located the rest of
the graves by poking a lightning rod into the ground looking for the
soft spots; "not too deep, dad". After finding all of the gravesites,
they placed temporary markers with names and dates. They also cleared
small trees, mowed the undergrowth, set corner posts, and wrapped a
heavy wire cable around the perimeter to mark the cemetery. On a later
date, Grandpa purchased all new head stones and placed them in the
cemetery. There is one cemetery entrance marker that says "Hewett".
They met with Rosy Stanley. Her son was Junior Stanley, who lived in a
white house on the left side of the road, about two hundred yards
before turning into Goose Creek. The house is no longer there. She was
older than Grandpa and had gone to two of the funerals, and she also
knew where everyone was buried. She verified what Grandpa and Dad had
figured out, and she knew the birth dates and death dates of the
deceased.
