This indenture made this (blank) day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred twenty eight between Mary Rowell of the county and state aforesaid of the one part and Hugh Smith of the same county and state, witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to her in hand well and truly paid by the said party of the second part at or before sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged & hath given granted bargained sold aliened enfeoffed conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth give grant bargain sell alien enfeoff convey and confirm into the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever a certain piece or parcel of land situate lying and being in the county of Brunswick aforesaid containing two hundred acres, beginning at a pine on the south side Callys branch and running North 10 E one hundred and seventy eight poles & eight links to a pine on the north of the said branch thence North seventy 73 W one hundred and seventy eight poles and eight links to a pine thence south 10 W one hundred and seventy eight poles and eighty links to a stake thence south 72 E one hundred and seventy eight poles & eight links to the first station.
To have and to hold the above described tract of land and every part and parcel thereof with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever and to his and their only proper use benefit & behoof and the said party of the first part for himself his heirs and assigns the said lands and tenements and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances thereunto belonging against him his heirs and against all and every other person and persons whatsoever unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by presents in witness whereof the said party of the first part doth hereunto affix her hand and seal this 14th day of august AD 1828.
