Durante MURRAY was born on 10 Mar 1919 in
Catawba, Catawba County, North Carolina. He died
on 13 Sep 2005 in Catawba Valley Medical Center,
Hickory, North Carolina and was buried in Maiden
City Cemetery, Maiden, North Carolina. He was
married to Mary Lee ARNDT on 28 December 1939.
His obituary read as follows: MAIDEN - Charlie
Durante Murray, 86, of 107 E. Pine St., died
Sept. 13, 2005, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Born March 10, 1919, near Murrays Mill, Catawba,
he was a son of the late William Fred Murray and
Nannie Wilson Murray. A member of First United
Methodist Church, in which he held every possible
position, he attended Balls Creek High School,
and was valedictorian of the Class of 1935, he
was a postal clerk for the Maiden Post Office. He
was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was
preceded in death by his parents; two brothers;
and a sister. Survivors include his wife of 65
years, Mary Lee Murray of the home; a son, C.
Douglas Murray of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother,
Woodrow Murray of Newton; a sister, Rachel M.
Sharpe of Catawba; many loving nieces, nephews
and in-laws. The funeral service will be
conducted by the Revs. Sarah Kalish and Jim Pyatt
at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at First
United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Maiden
Cemetery. The family will be at Goodin-Drum
Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8 tonight, Thursday,
Sept. 15, 2005. Memorials may be made to First
United Methodist Church or American Lung
Association. Goodin-Drum Funeral Home is in
