Wilburn Brown
("Buster") TRAVIS was born on 12
May 1939 in Catawba County, North Carolina and
died after a strong battle with cancer on 11 Dec
2007 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory,
North Carolina. He was buried in Hopewell
Methodist Church Cemetery, Sherrills Ford,
Catawba County, North Carolina. His obituary
appeared as follows: CONOVER - Wilburn Brown
(Buster) Travis, 68, of Conover, went to be with
his heavenly Father on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at
Catawba Valley Medical Center after a strong
battle with cancer. He was born May 12, 1939, to
the late Emmitt and Colleen Brown Travis of
Catawba County. He retired from a lifetime career
in the textile industry, beginning out of high
school as a sewing machine mechanic, moving up to
plant manager and finishing his working career in
industrial sewing machine equipment sales. He was
an avid hunter and fisherman. He passed his love
for the outdoors on to his son and grandchildren.
He took great pride in his yard and flowers,
especially his roses. Everyone loved his
beautiful roses. He was a wonderful husband,
father, grandfather and friend to all who knew
him. He was an active member of Hopewell United
Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39
years, Margaret Elizabeth (Lib) Dagenhart Travis.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Gary
Lee and Alisa Hicks of Newton; one sister, Tonita
Ann Travis Dellinger of Tucson, Ariz.; brother
and sister-in-law, Eddie and Sue Travis of
Newton; granddaughter, Elizabeth Hicks Kaylor of
Maiden; two grandsons, Jonathan Nathaniel Lee
Hicks and Christopher Lee Hicks, both of Newton;
great-granddaughter, Alexis Michelle Kaylor of
Maiden; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn
Dagenhart and Larry Deal of Newton; three
sisters-in-law, Nadine Dagenhart Holbrook of
Sherrills Ford and Avis Dagenhart Sessoms and
Darlene Dagenhart King, both of Charlotte;
brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George
Dagenhart and wife, Trish, of Sherrills Ford;
four aunts; one uncle; and numerous nieces,
nephews and close friends. A service of
remembrance will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec.
14, 2007, at Hopewell United Methodist Church,
with the Rev. Tamara Wensil officiating.
Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8
tonight, Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at
Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home. Memorials can be

Fund, 2211 Hopewell Church Road, Sherrills Ford,
