60. William Alexander McCORKLE was born on 20 May 1831 in Wadesboro, Anson, NC. He died on 6 Nov 1898 in Hartford Co. From Vikings to Glory - William was a doctor and served as Senior Surgeon of 2nd Asbys Tennessee Confederate Cavalry. Had a grandson name Francis Douglas McCorkle who is quoted "My grandfather, William A. McCorkle, was a doctor in the Confederate Army. In a raid in north Kentucky, he and his hospital train was captured --- He was jailed in Ohio for awhile - got out somehow and ended the war as a doctor in a Richmond Hospital.

He was married to Emily Teresa O'DELL on 9 Oct 1855 in Laurens Co., SC. Emily Teresa O'DELL was born on 1 Dec 1837 in Laurens District, SC. She died on 19 Jul 1894. William Alexander McCORKLE and Emily Teresa O'DELL had the following children:

122 vi. John O'Dell McCORKLE was born on 27 Sep 1870 in Williamston, SC. He died on 19 Jan 1926 in Asheville, Buncombe Co., NC. 10/97 - Stutesman notes - There was a copy of the obituary for John amongst the Bible records - Death of J. O. McCorkle - The death of Mr. J. O. McCorkle, of Spray, NC occurred this morning at 9:00 o'clock at the Winyah Hospital, Asheville, NC., where he has been under medical treatment since last August. The remains will be brought to Morristown tomorrow, accompanied by Messrs. T. L. and Kenneth McCorkle and take to the Stetzer Funderal Home. Funeral arrangements will be announce latter. The deceased is a brother of Mr. F. P. McCorkle. ( appears to be from a Morristown, TN newspaper).
123 vii. Mary Emily McCORKLE was born on 9 May 1873 in Williamston, SC. She died on 26 Dec 1873 in Williamston, SC. From Vikings to Glory - she died from falling into fire when nurse left her in room with three year old John, who pulled her out of the fire.
