76. George W. McCORKLE was born in 1857. He died in 1954. George McCorkle moved to Tucaloosa, Ala. in the 1940's after his wifes death. He was living with his daughter Sarah Moody. George was a writer and at one time lived in Washington, D. C. He retired at the age of 86 years and went on to live another 11 years and remained alert.

He was married to Annie Newberry SORBER in Catawba Co., NC. Annie Newberry SORBER was born on 10 Nov 1887 in Pennsylvania. She died about 1940. At the time of her marriage to George W. she was a voice teacher at Catawba College. Anna Locke Ingram Liles recalled her playing the organ at the Reformed Church while her son, Locke would pump. George W. McCORKLE and Annie Newberry SORBER had the following children:

child147 ii. Matthew "Locke" McCORKLE. Sarah McCorkle Moody's brother - also named Matthew Locke, hoever, called Locke was a medical doctor and died during World War I of TB.
