FIRST GENERATION

1. Matthew McCORKLE, the immigrant, was born about 1720 in Scotland or No. Ireland. He died on 30 May 1772 in Mecklenburg Co., NC. Matthew McCorkle with his two brothers, John and William came from Ireland around 1740. He settle in Anson County now Mecklenburg County on Davidson Creek. In addition to his two sons he had several daughters.

He was married to Jean GIVENS before 1741 in Ulster, Ireland. Jean GIVENS was born in Ireland. She died in NC. Matthew McCORKLE II and Jean GIVENS had the following children:

+2 i. Francis Marion McCORKLE Sr.
+3 ii. Thomas McCORKLE.
