Survivors include four daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Huffman and Elizabeth Shook of Claremont, Della Hildebran of Sherrills Ford and Wilma and Michael Sigmon of Conover; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Charlie and Christine Shook of Claremont, Tommy Shook, Fred Shook and Claude Shook, all of Conover, and Billy and Patricia Shook of Vale; a brother, James Hedrick of Conover; a sister, Lucille Bumgarner of Claremont; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. The Rev. Craig Schultz will officiate. Born Dec. 9, 1948, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Garland Ray and Anna Pearline Hedrick Shook. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont and a veteran of the Vietnam war. Fred was a machinist for seven years with Whiteside Machine and worked for Broyhill Furniture for 14 years. He loved fishing, hunting, the beach, bingo, spades, and yahtzee. Fred also enjoyed touring flea markets. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Tommy Shook, Claude Shook, and Charlie Shook. Survivors include his sons, Fred Allen Shook, of Claremont; Joey Marshall Shook, of Newton; Tommy Hugo Shook, of Newton; his sisters, Della Hildebran, of Sherrills Ford, and Mary Huffman, of Claremont; Elizabeth Shook, of Newton; Wilma Sigmon and her husband, Mike, of Con-over; his sister-in-law, Christine Shook, of Claremont; his brother,Bill Shook and his wife, Patricia, of Vale; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
