3802. Katherine Jane HERMAN was born on 14 October 1923 in Gaston County, North Carolina. She died on 10 April 2005 at the age of 81 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. She was buried in May's Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery, Newton, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Katherine Jane Herman Vallot, 81, of Mays Chapel Church Road, Newton, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton. Born Oct. 14, 1923, in Gaston County, Katherine was the daughter of the late Emmett Augusta and Cloie Cline Herman. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Newton. Katherine was a proud and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Born and raised in North Carolina, she was transplanted to South Louisiana by her “Cajun” husband, Cliff Vallot, after the end of World War II. They returned to Maiden in 1986 to reside in the Herman family home. Katherine was an immaculate homemaker and seamstress. Her personality was a delightful combination of North Carolina hospitality and Louisiana charm. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford T. Vallot; and sons, Clifford Reginald and Bernard Herman Vallot. Katherine is survived by three children, Leah Vallot Lieberman, and her husband, Al, of Dearborn, Mich., Timothy John Vallot of Maiden and Frank Thomas Vallot and his wife, Barbie, of Ponchatoula, La.; grandchildren, Stephanie Driver of Arlington, Texas, David John Sculati of Dearborn, Mich., James Vallot of Mandeville, La., and Taylor, Kayln, Chloe, Camaryn and Cade Cline Vallot of Ponchatoula, La.; and four great-grandchildren, Ace and Christen Driver and Eleanore and Anderson Sculati. Siblings are Verna Lou Herman Hovis of Lincolnton, Bandy Herman of Wilson, Mack Herman of Maiden and Earl Herman of Dallas. The family will receive visitors at the Herman home, 1574 Mays Chapel Church Road, on Thursday, April 14, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. The homesite service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2005. The officiating minister will be the Rev. Ronnie W. Parker. A Committal Service will follow at Mays Chapel Church Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. James M. Collins.
