Paul "Jerry" ABERNATHY was born on 27 April 1948 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 1 April 2010 at the age of 61 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in Providence Memorial Cemetery, NC Hwy. #10 3 miles south of Catawba, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: CLAREMONT - Paul "Jerry" Abernathy, 61, of Claremont, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. Born April 27, 1948, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Paul Edward and Betty Jo Loftin Abernathy. Jerry was a member of Catawba Baptist Church and loved to usher on Sunday mornings. He looked forward to attending the Adult Life Program in Conover, where he enjoyed spending time with his friends. Jerry had fond memories of the years he attended Balls Creek Elementary, often recalling his teachers and his "school lunch." He loved watching wrestling and old westerns and spent many Thursday nights dancing at Pappy's. He also loved coloring books, black Sharpie pens and putting together puzzles. At family gatherings, he was always a hit with his impersonations of John Wayne, James Cagney, Rhett Butler and The Three Stooges. Jerry was a special gift from God, going through life touching the lives of people with his outgoing personality. The laughter he brought will be missed by all of us who loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Theodore Abernathy. He is survived by a brother, Randy Abernathy and wife, Jeanne, of Claremont; two nieces, Dana Little and husband, Chip, and Candace Heafner and husband, Chris, all of Claremont; great-nephews, Aaron Little and Mack Little of Claremont; great-niece, Mya Shook of Claremont; and numerous other family members. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 3, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Catawba Baptist Church, with the Rev. Derek Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Memorial Cemetery in Catawba. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. at the church, prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Adult Life Programs, P.O.
