2234. Malcom Henry SMYRE was born on 27 February 1905 in Catawba County, North Carolina.²⁴⁷² He was baptized on 23 February 1906 in Mount Calvery Church, Claremont, Catawba County, North Carolina.²⁴⁷² by Rev. J. A. A.

Malcom Henry SMYRE and Sallie Linda ARNDT were married on 12 June 1935. Sallie Linda ARNDT, daughter of Herbert Lester ARNDT and Dora Ann SMITH, was born on 17 July 1908 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 23 November 2005 at the age of 97 in Lutheran Home East, Hickory, North Carolina. She was buried in Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Cemetery, Claremont, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows:²⁴⁷⁵ NEWTON - Sallie Arndt Smyre, 97, of Newton, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at Lutheran Home-East in Hickory. Born July 17, 1908, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Herbert Lester and Dora Smith Arndt. She was a homemaker and a member of Beth Eden Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Smyre; two sisters, Lorena Barringer and Georgie Shepperd; and a brother, Allen Arndt. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Mac Smyre and wife, Pat, of Newton and Dr. Lee Smyre and wife, Harriette, of Greer, S.C.; five grandchildren, Lynette Roll and husband, Ken, of Newton, Jeff Smyre of Chapel Hill, Ginger Morrow of Walhalla, S.C., Sherry Hice of Travelers Rest, S.C., and Susan Smyre of Honolulu, Hawaii; and three great-grandchildren, Dakota Morrow, Wiley Hice and Gracie Smyre. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at Beth Eden Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dr. Jane Mitcham will officiate. A private graveside service will be held in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Claremont. The family will receive friends following the service at Beth Eden Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to Beth Eden Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 400 N. Main Ave., Newton, N.C. 28658. The Smyre family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.
