4332. Anita HUFFMAN was born on 17 January 1939 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 31 October 2005 at the age of 66 in Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. She was buried in St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hickory, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Anita Huffman Morris, 66, of Hickory, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 17, 1939, she was the youngest child of the late Lee Jesse Moran and Jessie Propst Huffman. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Miller’s Lutheran Church. A graduate of Duke University and Lenoir-Rhyne College, Anita was a teacher for more than 40 years in the Hickory Public and Catawba County schools systems. She was instrumental in the development of programs for academically gifted students in Catawba County. She was a teacher, mentor and friend to many, as well as a beloved mother, Nana, and sister. A lover of animals, she was a frequent contributor to the Humane Society and the United States Pony Club. In addition to her parents, Anita was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Huffman Whitworth and an infant sister; two brothers, Lee Clement “L.C.” and Ervin Moran Huffman; and a dearly loved daughter-in-law, Laura Weaver Morris. She is survived by a daughter, Melanie Morris Katz and husband, Jeffrey, of Newton; a son, Lee Herbert Morris of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren, Jeremy Lee Katz of Arlington, Mass., and Jessica Marie Katz of Chapel Hill; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Louise H. Chamblee and Larue H. (Mrs. William) Isenhour of Hickory, Louetta H. Nicholson of Sylva and Nellie Jean H. (Mrs. Charles) Robertson of Newton; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Dolan L. (Betty) Huffman, Reba Huffman and Pat Huffman, all of Hickory; and a number of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved feline babies, Sasha and Sebastian. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Miller’s Lutheran Church in Hickory. Burial will follow in the family gravesite at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church-Mo. Synod. The family will receive friends for one hour before the service at the church, and will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Katz, 1185 Willow Creek Drive, Newton, at other times. Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Cremations is serving the family of Anita Huffman Morris. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Anita’s memory be made to the Catawba County Humane Society, the United States Pony Club, Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, or to one’s favorite charity.
