Billy Carroll PUNCH, son of Carroll Adolphus PUNCH and Bonnie K. JARRETT, was born on 7 August 1930 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina.1900,2916 He died after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease on 15 February 2006 at the age of 75 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows:2917 HICKORY - Billy Carroll Punch, 75, a lifetime resident of Hickory, died Feb. 15, 2006, at his residence after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born Aug. 7, 1930, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Carroll and Bonnie Jarrett Punch. A lifetime member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, where he served as secretary of the Sunday school and member of the church council and property committee, he was a Korean War veteran and staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, where he served from January 1951 to 1953. While in the Air Force as a personnel clerk, he was a pitcher for their fast-pitch softball team. He also served on the board of the Viewmont Fire Department for a number of years, retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 27 years and served on the board of the Post Office Credit Union. Prior to the U.S. Postal Service, he was a bread salesman for Holsum Bakery for 15 years. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Edna Louise Hollar Punch of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell Norman and Miriam Weaver Punch of Hickory; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra Punch and John Penning of Hickory; two grandsons, Jason Darrell Punch of Hickory and Joshua Friedman of New Jersey; a granddaughter, Rachel Collins of Loveland, Colo.; a great-granddaughter, Elorah Collins of Loveland, Colo.; two stepgrandsons, Jody and Jamie Penning of New York; a brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Vernice Punch of Hickory; a sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Thomas Austin of Spartanburg, S.C.; two nephews, Norman Andrew Punch Jr. of Holly Springs and Jon Austin of Cary; two nieces, Carol Kinne of Spring, Texas, and Katrina Hildebrandt of Spartanburg, S.C.; and four great-nieces and great-nephews. The funeral will be conducted by Pastors David Keck and Walter Hitchcock at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW Ninth Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, Fla. 33136-1494. Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family of Billy Punch. He was buried in Mt. Olive Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hickory, North Carolina.
