Glenn Douglas SMITH, son of Wayne Marcus SMITH and Peggy Little ARNDT, was born on 4 February 1955 in Catawba County, North Carolina.³⁰¹¹ He died on 16 February 2006 at the age of 51 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows:³⁰¹² SMITH, Glenn Douglas NEWTON - Glenn Douglas “Doug” Smith, 51, of Bethany Church Road, Newton, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born Feb. 4, 1955, in Catawba County, he was a son of Peggy Arndt Smith of Conover and the late Wayne Marcus Smith. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was self-employed as a stonemason. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew Glenn Smith; and a brother, Donald Marcus “Mark” Smith. Survivors include a son, Andrew “Andy” Douglas Smith of Charlotte; his mother, Peggy A. Smith of Conover; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Melinda McCormick and husband, John, of Flat Rock and Melanie Matthews and husband, Eddie, of Boonville; and a brother and sister-in-law, Michael Wayne Smith and wife, Kathy, of Conover. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Conover. The Rev. Scott Johnson will officiate. A private inurnment will take place. The family will receive friends tonight, Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658; St. John’s Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 2126 St. Johns Church Road, Conover, N.C. 28613; or Conover School, 108 Seventh St. Place, SW, Conover, N.C. 28613. The Smith family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. He was buried in St. John's Lutheran Church (MO Synod) Cemetery, Conover, Catawba County, NC.
