Born August 26, 1926 in Alexander County, he was the son of the late Harry Lee and Beutrice White Pennell. He was the owner/operator of Conover Radio and TV Service for 43 years and had previously been employed with Winn-Dixie in Newton. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Conover where he had been a member of the United Methodist Men and a past Sunday School teacher. He served in the US Army during WWII receiving the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Haas. Survivors include: Wife of 54 years: Gilda F. Deal Pennell of the home; Sons & Daughter-in-law: Mark and Faith Pennell of Conover, Alan Pennell of Conover, Randy Pennell of Cumming, GA; Grandchildren: Andrew Pennell, Brittany Pennell, Matthew Pennell, Cody Pennell, Veronika Pennell, Logan Pennell, and Saryn Pennell; Step Grandchildren: Reese Croyle and Reid Black; Sisters: Ruth Etta White of Taylorsville, Geneva Deal of Taylorsville; Brother: Kearney Pennell of Taylorsville; Many Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2004 at First United Methodist Church in Conover. The Revs. Mickey Moree and Dixon Adams will officiate and burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park with military rites performed by Newton American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. on Friday at First United Methodist Church. Pallbearers serving the family will be: Jerry Austin, Kevin Austin, Tim Pennell, Scotty Pennell, Jimmy Lee White, David Deal, Dave Markland, and Julian Perkins.
