Elizabeth SHOOK was born on 25 September 1928 in Burke County, North Carolina. She died on 6 December 2008 at the age of 80 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Rutherford College, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: VALDESE - Mrs. Elizabeth Shook Thompson, 80, of Connelly Springs, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Catawba Valley Medical Center following a period of declining health. Mrs. Thompson was born Sept. 25, 1928, in Burke County to the late Clyde Shook Sr. and Ruby Decker Shook. In addition to her parents, her husband, Clyde Thompson; a daughter, Nancy Thompson Haliburton; and a sister, Martha Shook, preceded her in death. Elizabeth was a member of Connelly Springs First Baptist Church, where she taught Vacation Bible School for more than 40 years and had 37 consecutive years of perfect Sunday school attendance. Survivors include her granddaughter, Libby Haliburton Huff of Connelly Springs; grandson, Richard William Haliburton of Connelly Springs; great-granddaughters, Nancy Morgan Haliburton and Holly Elizabeth Haliburton; brothers, Clyde Shook Jr., Bill Shook, Frank Shook and Cecil Shook; sisters, Peggy Ogle, Ruth Crump, Linda Hart and Bernice Gragg; 13 nieces; and four nephews. The funeral service for Elizabeth Shook Thompson will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at Connelly Springs First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Revs. Clifton Kinlaw and Phillip Hawkins. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Connelly Springs First Baptist Church. Heritage Funeral Service & Crematory in Valdese is serving the family. Billy SHOOK was born on 29 September 1930 in Burke County, North Carolina. He died on 29 April 2009 at the age of 78 in Valdese General Hospital, Rutherford College, Burke County, NC. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Rutherford College, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: VALDESE - Mr. Billy Shook, 78, of Connelly Springs, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Valdese Hospital after a period of declining health. Mr. Shook was born Sept. 29, 1930, in Burke County to the late Clyde E. Shook Sr. and Ruby Decker Shook. He retired from Broyhill Furniture Co. and was a faithful and dedicated member of the Connelly Springs First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, two sisters, Martha Shook and Elizabeth Thompson, preceded him in death. Surviving are his daughter, Sharon Waldrop of Connelly Springs; his son, Tommy Shook and fiancee, Scheryl Cannon of Sterling, Va.; three brothers, Clyde Shook Jr. of Connelly Springs, Frank Shook of Icard and Cecil Shook of Wilkesboro; and four sisters, Peggy Ogle, Ruth Crump, Linda Hart and Bernice Gragg, all of Connelly Springs. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Jonathan Feimster and wife, Shannon, of Valdese and Chris Olsen and wife, Theresa, of Lenoir; his companion, Ruth Haas of Lenoir, and her daughter, Cynthia Price and husband, Tommy, and their children, Eric and Tara; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thanks to his extended family, "The regulars of Chicken-in-the-Basket," for all their visits and kindness shown Billy during his illness, and to Dr. McDonald and the staff of the Cancer Center of Valdese for their compassion and excellent care. The funeral service for Billy Shook will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese, with the Revs. Phillip Hawkins and Clifton Kinlaw officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
