Darrell Lane HOKE was born on 12 September 1950 in Catawba County, North Carolina.²⁶⁴⁸ He died on 25 August 2012 at the age of 61 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Sherrills Ford, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: CLAREMONT Darrell Lane Hoke, 61, of Claremont, passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at Hospice of Sherrills Ford. Born Sept. 12, 1950, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Lane Ellis Hoke and Lois Eloise Little Hoke. Darrell was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Claremont and retired as a long-distance truck driver after 40 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Shannon Penley; brother-in-law, David Penley; special uncle, Edwin Hoke; and his dog, Precious. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marylyn Penley Hoke, of the home; son, Walter Hoke and wife, Verlina, of Claremont; granddaughter, Abigail Hoke; grandson, Hunter Hoke; sister, Doris Setzer and husband, Robert, of Claremont; nieces, Lisa Drake and Brittany James; nephew, Robbie Setzer; other nieces and nephews; special cousin, Delores Penley; and special dog, Cocoa. The funeral service will be held today (Monday, Aug. 27) at 4 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton with the Revs. Andy Stephens and Ron Lytle officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Claremont. The family will receive friends prior to the service Monday, from 3 to 3:45 p.m., at the funeral home.
