Frank Vernon HERMAN was born on 20 September 1924 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 26 January 2009 at the age of 84 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Hickory, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Frank Vernon Herman, 84, of Hickory passed away unexpectedly Jan. 26, 2009, at his residence. Frank was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Catawba County to the late Everette E. and Ivie Ree Propst Herman. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Abernethy, and a brother-in-law, Dillard Abernethy. He was a member of Millers Lutheran Church, a charter member of St. Stephens Optimist Club and retired as a salesman with Snyder Paper Co. after 30 years of service and 12 years with Killians Hardware. He also served in World War II in the Army Air Corps. Survivors include his wife, Emma Jean Frady Herman of the home; sons, Doug Herman and wife, Jennifer, of Boone and Dale Herman and wife, Amy, of Chapel Hill; grandsons, Luke Herman and Rod Herman, both of Boone; granddaughters, Ivie Herman and Macie Herman, both of Chapel Hill; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at Millers Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Bob Alle and Jesse Lott officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, at Hickory Funeral Home. Martha Jean HERMAN was born on 20 July 1931 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 9 September 2008 at the age of 77 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Martha Jean Herman Abernethy, of Springs Road in Hickory, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 9, 2008, at her residence. Martha was born July 20, 1931, in Catawba County to the late Everette E. and Ivie Ree Propst Herman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dillard F. Abernethy. She was a member of Millers Lutheran Church, retired from Electrical Service Group Inc., and was an alumna of Lenoir-Rhyne College. She will be remembered for the love of her family and being a loving, gentle soul to all. Her unconditional love will live forever in the lives of her loved ones. Surviving are daughters, Lou Ree Botkins and husband, Henry, of Adairsville, Ga., and Donna Abernethy-Shook and husband, Johnny, of Hickory; a son, Keith Abernethy and wife, Chris, of Claremont; a brother, Frank Herman and wife, Emma Jean, of Hickory; grandsons, Benjamin Botkins and Christopher Botkins of Adairsville, Ga.; and granddaughters, Lily Abernethy and Emily Abernethy of Claremont. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at Millers Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert Alle officiating . Interment will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
