He died on 24 May 2009 at the age of 78 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Donald Franklin Curlee, 78, of Conover, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley after a period of declining health. Born Nov. 18, 1930, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Glenn Seymour Curlee and Zula Hunsucker Curlee. Mr. Curlee retired from Southern Furniture Co. He was a member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Conover. He is survived by his sister, Joyce Shaw of the home; nephews, David A. Shaw of Thailand and Joel A. Shaw of Newton; and a niece, Terry Thornburg of Conover. A graveside service will be held at 5 p.m. today, Tuesday, May 26, 2009, in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, 2126 St. John's Church Road, Conover, with the Rev. Lonny J. McSherley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658.
