Lela Joyce SETZER and Richard Rockett HUFFMAN were married on 12 January 1946 in Catawba County, North Carolina.²⁸⁹⁷ Richard Rockett HUFFMAN, son of Charlie Jones HUFFMAN and Myrtle Lou ROCKETT, was born on 3 January 1926 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 1 April 2009 at the age of 83 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery, Claremont, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Richard Rockett Huffman, 83, formerly of Conover and a resident of Sterling House of Hickory, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born Jan. 3, 1926, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Myrle Rockett Huffman. Mr. Huffman was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Conover and a retired truck driver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wives, Joyce Setzer Huffman and Pauline Sipe Huffman; a son, Charlie Huffman; a brother, Mack Huffman; and a sister, Betty Haus. Survivors include his son, Richard L. Huffman and wife, Gloria, of Hickory; his granddaughter, Amanda Huffman Kehoe and husband, Andrew; and great-granddaughter, Kacie Marie, all of Cornelius. A service of remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. today, Friday, April 3, 2009, at his church, Mount Zion Lutheran on County Home Road in Conover, with visitation preceding from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. The Rev. David Seymour will officiate. Burial will follow in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Catawba. Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28215-3220. The family would like to thank the staff of Sterling House for the care they so lovingly bestowed upon Mr. Huffman during his 14-month stay. Charles Lynn "Charlie" HUFFMAN was born on 14 February 1955. He died on 6 October 2003 at the age of 48 in Conover, Catawba County, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Charles Lynn "Charlie" Huffman, 48, of 4700 County Home Road, Conover, went home to be with our Lord on Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, after a brave battle with melanoma. Born Feb. 14, 1955, he was the son of Richard Rockett Huffman and the late Joyce SETZER Huffman. A former employee at Leggett & Platt, Charlie never met a stranger and touched many lives with his sense of humor and jovial personality. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord in "Truckers for Christ" Prison Ministry and as pastor of Ark Baptist Church in Conover as well as various other positions with Baptist churches in the area. Many also enjoyed his singing. Besides his father, he leaves behind his wife of five years, Louise Ball Huffman; stepchildren, Chastity Stephens and husband, Ron, of Conover, Heather Boston of Hiddenite and John Lewis of the home; five stepgrandchildren, Nicole Propst, Sarah Stephens, Casey and Zachary Boston and Allison Smith; a brother, Richard Huffman and wife, Gloria, of Hickory; a brother-in-law, Norman Ball and wife, Gay, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a niece, Amanda H. Wilkinson of Maiden; a nephew, Dustin Ball of Hickory; and a multitude of friends, neighbors and acquaintances. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton by the Revs. Bobby Langston and Tim Shook. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory with the Rev. Larry Cooley officiating. The family will receive friends today, Tuesday, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton.
