Sue WAGNER was born on 11 November 1923 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 20 August 2010 at the age of 86 in Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, North Carolina. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Mrs. Sue Wagner Crump, 86, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Carolinas Medical Center. She was born Nov. 11, 1923, in Catawba County, the daughter of Charles and Ollie Teague Wagner. Mrs. Crump was a member of First Baptist Church, Newton, where she was a member of the choir, associational committee, constitution committee, a former Sunday school teacher and a former director of the WMU. She also was a charter member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church in Hickory. A trend-setting entrepreneur, Mrs. Crump started Punch & Judy Daycare in 1959, which continued in operation until 1984. Mrs. Crump's Punch & Judy remains the longest continuously operated day-care center in Catawba County. Mrs. Crump was a founding member of the North Carolina Daycare Association and was president in its early years. It was through the early work of Mrs. Crump and the North Carolina Daycare Association that present licensing standards for teachers and day-care facilities were instituted. She enjoyed crafts, but after retirement never stopped working in her many other endeavors, whether it be a CNA, her church work or in community schools. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Crump in 1995; her daughter, Paula Beth Ribelin; a brother, William Wagner; and a sister, Elenora Pinion. Survivors include her two sons, David S. Crump and wife, Marty, of Raleigh and John C. Crump of Newton; three brothers, Charles Wagner Jr. and Henry Wagner, both of Hickory, and Marcus Wagner of Conover; two grandsons, Nathan Ribelin of Ben Brooks, Texas, and Timothy Ribelin of King of Prussia, Penn.; and two great-grandchildren, Calvin and Felicity Ribelin, both of Ben Brooks, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at First Baptist Church, Newton, by the Revs. James Bumgarner and David Gary. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Catawba Funerals and Cremations. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Baptist Children's Home of N.C., P.O.
