1934. Grace Almeda SPENCER was born on 4 August 1918 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 11 November 2009 at the age of 91 in White Stone Care Center, Greensboro, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: GREENSBORO - Grace Elmeta Spence Simmons, a native of Hickory, died at White Stone in Greensboro on Nov. 11, 2009. She was born Aug. 4, 1918, to the late Dallas and Hester Spence. She was married to the late Paul Eugene Simmons, who died in 1974. She worked in the hosiery industry and was a member of Fairgrove United Methodist Church. She also was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia; a grandson, Paul Eric Lowman; six brothers, Cecil, Basil, Hazel, Dick, Grover and Dallas Jr.; and a sister, Olivia Huffman. She is survived by two daughters, Shirlie (Olin) Isenhour of Statesville and Susie (Ronnie) Lowman of Granite Falls; a sister, Katherine Bolick of Hickory; a brother, James Denny Spence of Jasper, Ala.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A family reception will be held at Catawba Funerals & Cremations on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted by the Rev. Olin B. Isenhour at the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. Grace Almeda SPENCER and Paul SIMMONS were married before 1938. Paul SIMMONS, son of Preston Baxter SIMMONS and Lura Lee Y. YOUNT, was born on 6 March 1917. He died in 1974 at the age of 57.
