His obituary appeared as follows:¹⁹⁹² HICKORY - Marcus Lafayette Little, of Hickory, died Feb. 21, 2006, at age 96. Born in Hickory on Oct. 17, 1909, he was the son of William Herbert Little and Mary Elizabeth Rudisill Little. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Elizabeth Fleming Little; three brothers, Carroll Curtis Little, Franklin Herman Little and Wilbert Harold Little; and two sisters, Evangeline Rudisill Little Rasor and Lillian Augusta Little. Survivors include three children, Robert Marcus Little and wife, Jacqueline Loy Little, of Chapel Hill, Patricia Anne Little and Mickey Craig of Vale and Michael Wayne Little and wife, Lisa Hicks Little, of Bethlehem; three grandchildren, Brandon Wayne Little, Hayley Sierra Little and Allie Elizabeth Little of Bethlehem; a sister, Mary Sheely Little Miller of Greenville, S.C.; and two brothers, William Frederick Little of Chapel Hill and Arthur Herbert Little of Hickory and St. George Island, Fla. A graduate of Claremont Central High School and Mount Pleasant Collegiate Institute, he earned a bachelor of arts degree and a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Lenoir-Rhyne College. He received a B.S. in chemical engineering from North Carolina State University in 1934, and did graduate work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. As a research chemist at Hercules Powder Co. in Wilmington, Del., from 1934 to 1949, he made several technical advances for use by the military during World War II. In 1949, he returned to Hickory to operate Carosol Chemical Co. until his retirement in 1971. He served as a technical consultant to local chemical and furniture industries for many years after retirement. He was a charter member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Hickory. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 130 Thirty-ninth Ave. Place, NW, Hickory. Receiving will follow the service in the church Parish Hall. Memorials may be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church; the Catawba Science Center; or the Revs. M.L. & W.H. Little Scholarship Fund at Lenoir-Rhyne College. Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Marcus Little family.
