3763. William Paul HERMAN was born on 28 April 1918 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 24 June 2006 at the age of 88 in Abernethy Laurels, Newton, North Carolina. He was buried in Conover City Cemetery, Conover, Catawba, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - William Paul Herman, 88, of Abernathy Laurels, formerly of Conover, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, after a period of declining health. Born April 28, 1918, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Claude and Lillian McGill Herman. He retired from Herman Sipe Co. and Hunsucker Hardware. Mr. Herman served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a charter member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, the Rev. Carl Herman and Glenn Herman. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Bertie Caldwell Herman of Conover; a daughter and son-in-law, Myra H. Orders and husband, Lee, of Newton; a son and daughter-in-law, William Thomas Herman and wife, Debbie, of Conover; grandchildren, Amanda and Ashley Orders and Glenn and Jessica Herman; a sister, Lois Herman of Conover; three nieces; and three nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Conover. The Revs. Dr. Thomas Hamilton and Dr. Scott Bortz will officiate. Burial will follow in Conover City Cemetery. Military rites will be given by members of American Legion Post 16. William Paul HERMAN and Bertie Hazel CALDWELL were married estimated 1938. Bertie Hazel CALDWELL, daughter of William Bartley CALDWELL and Mettie JONES, was born on 16 August 1924 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 2 August 2010 at the age of 85 in Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. She was buried in Conover City Cemetery, Conover, Catawba, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Bertie Hazel Caldwell Herman, 85, of Conover, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. She was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Catawba County, a daughter of the late William Bartley Caldwell and Mettie Jones Caldwell. Mrs. Herman was a charter member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She attended Wingate College and graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh. She was a retired teacher, having taught in the Catawba County School System. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, W. Paul Herman. Mrs. Herman is survived by her daughter, Myra Herman Orders and husband, Lee, of Startown; son, Thomas Herman and wife, Debbie, of Claremont; grandchildren, Amanda Orders of Atlanta, Ga., Ashley Orders of Greenville, S.C., and Glenn Herman and Jessica Herman, both of Claremont; and sisters, Neva Sipe of Newton and Mildred Drum and husband, Cletus, of Maiden. A service of remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover, with the Rev. Ed Yount officiating. Burial will follow in Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Drum Funeral Home in Conover.
