5620. John William MCREE was born on 14 July 1930 in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina.2771 He died on 21 August 2007 at the age of 77 in Taylorsville, Alexander County, North Carolina. He was buried in Mt. Olive Lutheran Church Cemetery, Newton, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: TAYLORSVILLE - John William McRee, 77, of Taylorsville, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at his residence. Born July 14, 1930, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Marshall Long McRee and Catherine Setzer McRee. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. McRee was a lifelong member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Newton. He was in the trucking business for most of his adult life and retired as an owner and operator. His greatest love was traveling with his family and friends. He loved camping in the mountains and at the beach. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Shannon Lee Poovey, and sister, Mary Evelyn Hassler. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Faye Dunning McRee of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Susan McRee Bumgarner and husband, Larry, of Hickory; son and daughter-in-law, Philip Ray McRee and wife, Nancy, of Thomasville; grandchildren, Stephanie Poovey Woosley and husband, Leroy, Kyle McRee and Matthew McRee; great-grandchild, Leah Shannon Woosley; stepchildren, Tereasa Myers and husband, Mark, of Orlando, Fla., and Rhonda Lynn Johnson of Greensboro; and brothers, Jim McRee and wife, Joan, of Taylorsville and Charles McRee and wife, Marilyn, of Conover. A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Newton. The Rev. Ralph Abernethy III will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith McRee, Gary Detter, Teddy McRee, Gene Huffman, Dickie Bunton and George Moose. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2103 Mt.
