Joan Glennie SCRONCE, daughter of Carl SCRONCE and Modena WINSTEAD, was born on 18 February 1936 in Catawba County, North Carolina.²⁹⁵³ She died on 10 March 2008 at the age of 72 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: TAYLORSVILLE - Joan S. McRee, 72, of Taylorsville, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton. Mrs. McRee was born Feb. 18, 1936, in Catawba County, a daughter of the late Carl Scronce and Modena Winstead Scronce. She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church for 37 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Clark Hefner, Carl Scronce Jr. and Mickey Scronce. She is survived by her husband, James McRee; daughter, Julie Dietz Isaacson and her husband, Douglas, of Salt Point, N.Y.; son, Chris Dietz of Hickory; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A service of remembrance will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Ralph Abernethy III officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. Pallbearers honoring Mrs. McRee will be Gary Detter, Gene Huffman, Wilson Davis, Ted McRee, Grady Hefner and Larry Bumgarner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2103 Mount Olive Church Road, Newton, N.C. 28658 or Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658.
