Clarence Edgar ROSEMAN and Claudia SHERRILL were married on 9 June 1927. Claudia SHERRILL, daughter of Babel Pinkney SHERRILL and Lithea Cornelia HAMBY, was born on 23 December 1906 in Caldwell County, North Carolina. She died on 8 September 2006 at the age of 99 in Conover, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Claudia Sherrill Roseman, 99, passed away Sept. 8, 2006, at her residence in Conover. Born Dec. 23, 1906, in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Babel Pickney Sherrill and Lithea Hamby Sherrill. Claudia was a direct descendant of Adam Sherrill, who, joined by his eight sons, was the first pioneer to cross the southern banks of the Catawba River. There he built the first homestead in Catawba County in 1747 near the ford that bears his name, Sherrill's ford. Claudia was a graduate of King's College in Charlotte. She worked in the office of Hickory Hosiery Mill before marrying Clarence Edgar Roseman Sr. on June 9, 1927. In 1958, Claudia and Clarence founded C.R. Laine Furniture Co., in Hickory. She was active in Christ Lutheran Church in Hickory, where she had been a member since her marriage in that church. Claudia was preceded in death by her four brothers, Thurmond, Truman, Mark and Fred, as well as her four sisters, Ethel Sherrill Martin, Edna Sherrill Huffman, Irene Sherrill Miller and Grace Sherrill Wagner. Also preceding her were a daughter-in-law, Doris Elmore Roseman; and her great-grandson, Matthew Eric Roseman. She is survived by her children, C.E. (Sonny) and Adele Roseman Jr. of Conover and Michael Ray and Elaine Roseman Engelhard of Cary. Also surviving Mrs. Roseman are five grandchildren, Brian Edgar Roseman of Hickory, Steven Hamilton Fennell of North Wilkesboro, Stuart Roseman Fennell of Greensboro, Charlotte Frye Sharpe of Conover and Warren Frye of Hickory; 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted by the Revs. Richard Schwandt and Dr. David Ludwig at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hickory. Claudia will be buried with her husband in Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Brian Roseman, Steven Fennell, Stuart Fennell, Warren Frye, Smith Sharpe and Edward Julian. The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 304 Second Ave., SE, Hickory, N.C. 28602.
