Will of GEORGE HERMAN presented for probate before J. B. POOL, Clerk of Superior Court, on 15 July 1891 by L. HERMAN. In November 1888, he was mentioned in a newspaper article, as follows The Alexander County Journal was a weekly newspaper published in Taylorsville which preceded The Mountain Scout and The Taylorsville Times. The November 22, 1888 edition carried the following article about our third generation GEORGE HERMAN.

November 22, 1888

An Old Democrat.
Capt. GEORGE HERMAN was born in Catawba county, N, C. in the year 1795. He moved to Alexander county in the year 1839. He has served the people as an officer of the law in both Catawba counties. He has been a man of considerable consequence and a .good citizen. He was 17 years old at the time of the war of 1812. He was 50 years old at the time of the Mexican War, and 66 years old at the time of the Civil war. He lived while Washington was yet President. He has voted at 18 Presidential elections. He cast his first vote for Monroe in 1817, and probably his last vote for Grover Cleveland in 1888, selecting his own tickets. He is now near the 94th year of his age, and at this time the oldest living .man in Alexander county. The telephone, torpedo, Atlantic cable and even Fulton's steamboat are younger than he. He has always defend the principles of Jeffersonian Democracy. May he yet live that we may be benefited.

While he may not have gotten into some of the more interesting situations that his father did, he seems to have been a pillar of the community. He died on 30 May 1891 at the age of 96 in Catawba County, North Carolina.7 George was buried in Friendship Lutheran Church Cemetery, Taylorsville, Alexander County, NC. Known as "Captain Herman," probably referring to his service in the Militia.
