Born July 4, 1937, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Ruth Hoke Poovey and David Roy Poovey Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Faye Owensby Poovey; two brothers: Charles Lynn Poovey, David Roy Poovey Jr.; and an infant sister. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Crutchfield and husband, Luke, of Hickory, Ashley Day and James, of Rhodhiss, N.C.; two brothers, Dick Hoke and Kenneth Poovey, both of Hickory; and a granddaughter, Christina Crutchfield, of Hickory. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 25, in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home, Hickory. Burial will follow at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.
